In my opinion, the key thing to teach a student is independence. The more I can help a student become independent in their study, the better stead they'll be in for exams, revision and further education, as a passion for learning the material by your own merit is the key for future success. If I can pass on the passion I have for maths, teach my…

The most important things a tutor can do are build trust, adapt to the student's learning style, and foster genuine understanding. A great tutor simplifies complex ideas, encourages curiosity, and patiently reinforces concepts until confidence grows. They create a safe space where mistakes are part of learning and progress is celebrated. Clear…

The most important thing a tutor can do is improve the confidence of the student. The most important thing to have when walking into an exam is confidence. With great confidence comes greater problem solving skills, and greater creativity. Hence, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student more comfortable and confident…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is help the student build a genuine understanding of the material, rather than just having them memorize the answers. What this means in practice is asking the kinds of questions that push them to actually think, being patient when concepts take a bit of time to land and adjusting the explanations until…

Breakdown difficult concepts into easy concepts to grasp. It is also important that the tutor pays more attention to and builds rapport with the student as this differentiates a teacher from a tutor who teaches one-to-one. In-depth understanding of the subject. This allows me to break down complex problems and concepts into basic understandable…

I think the most important things are to listen to the student, understand their individual needs and build their confidence. A tutor should not just give students the answers, but help them understand the process so they can eventually solve problems independently. Most importantly, students should feel supported, comfortable making mistakes and…

The most important thing a math tutor can do for a student is help them build confidence. From my experience, most students understand math but are afraid of it. Being scared of math makes it more likely for students to make mistakes. My HSC maths teacher used to say that to be able to understand mathematics, one must understand the basics of it…

Another important…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for their students is to build a relationship. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is support and mentor a student, not just teach the content. Tutoring is not just about writing formulas on paper and solving equations. Tutoring is about connecting with the student, listening to them and understanding them. A tutor is someone that a student can rely on for support. They are pragmatic in finding ways to ensure the student has a positive experience with learning. The student is in control, and the tutor is a guide that assists and also facilitates the student to take safe risks, ask questions and completely engage with their learning in ways suitable…

The most important thing is for a tutor to understand a student's preferences and what sort of teaching style would suit them. Different people have different learning suitabilities. Thus, a tutor should be able to adapt to suit the student's learning cues. My biggest strengths would be patience, determination, and the willingness to go above and…

Tiffany is currently tutoring my son and daughter. The process of setting up the sessions was quick and efficient. She has always been on time, committed and focused during the sessions. The children have found her to be friendly and approachable and have really found the three lessons so far to be extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend EzyMaths.

Inside SydenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emma worked through angle properties for parallel lines and used diagrams to explore alternate, corresponding, and cointerior angles.

In Year 9, Alex focused on trigonometric ratios and their applications, as well as reinforcing index laws with practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas tackled standard differentiation techniques including the quotient rule, applying these skills to textbook exercises and real exam questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student relied on entering chemical equations straight into the calculator rather than writing them out—this habit led to repeated errors in balancing equations and missed marks.

For a Year 9 Maths student, index laws were an ongoing challenge; as a tutor noted, "he tended to skip showing working when applying index rules," making it hard to catch mistakes early.

Meanwhile, a senior student's proof-writing in Maths lacked clear formatting, so their logical steps weren't always obvious. In these moments, accuracy suffered and corrections took longer than needed.

Recent Achievements

One Sydenham tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to freeze when tackling simultaneous equations; now, she's able to set up the equations and choose between substitution or elimination without prompting.

In another session, a Year 11 student who struggled with linking rates to differential equations is finally making those connections on his own, confidently talking through each step.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 6 recently began identifying like terms independently and multiplying coefficients—last term he'd wait for hints before trying. Last week, he asked the tutor for extra practice problems on fractions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Peters / Sydenham Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Tempe High School.
