Ensure that if they are facing significant challenges with a specific topic, that they maintain a growth mindset, and do not orient their attitude to one of self-defeat. I consider empathy, support, and patience to be core qualities tutors can offer students. With empathy, an english tutor can help students feel comfortable in being honest, distressed by external factors, and other obstacles they may have to overcome in their learning journey. Patience and support go hand-in-hand with one another as by showing…

For me, it's super important for an english tutor to keep the lesson interactive and somewhat interesting, as interest fuels motivation. However, it's important not to forget that repetition is key in learning and retaining information. Certain math concepts need to be repeated to engrain into memory. Essays and writing styles have to be written…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is work with the student at their own pace and find ways that work best for them. It allows for them to not feel rushed and be able to take their time and not feel silly. I like to interact with children. I am a dedicated worker and love to be organized. I like to interact with kids at…

The most important thing an english tutor can do is listen to their student and work out the most appropriate way to help them. Not all students learn the same way, and it is integral to make learning desirable and achievable through modifying language used, providing appropriate examples and supporting students to feel confident. My strengths…

It is pivotal that the tutor is always easily approachable as otherwise shy students may be reluctant to ask the tutor questions and thus those shy kids may end up falling behind. In addition, I feel that tutors must always be supportive towards the student as any harsh or negative comments may severely hinder a students willingness and ability to…

I believe an english tutor's duty is not to necessarily improve the intellectual capability of their client, but rather, guide them in a way that allows them to harness their own learning potential through customised, carefully tailored programs specific to the individual. Whilst this may not necessarily be viable for every circumstance, it is the…

The most important thing as an english tutor is to be there for your student, not only academically but mentally and emotionally as well. I want my students to feel like they can ask me for advice on subjects that may not pertain to their education, but I want them to also feel like they can come to me for help when it comes to their academics as…

I believe that building solid rapport with a student is one of the most important tasks a tutor needs to achieve in order to ensure future development and academic growth. This involves listening closely to what the student wants to achieve in regards to the studies, and creating an effective communication system whereby the tutor understands…

The most important thing would be to keep the student engaged - the mere delivery of information means nothing if the student is not interested, or given a chance to apply it. Providing activities is paramount in this case, as it allows students to apply concepts at a pace they are comfortable with and become familiar with them through 'learning…

I believe two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are help them gain some new insight and understanding into a subject, as well as try to inspire a genuine passion for the topic. Inside Tanah MerahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Xavier focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and practiced key fraction skills, including addition and subtraction with mixed numbers.

For Year 10, Zara revised index laws and factorisation by working through her previous quiz results and extra targeted questions.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, Lachlan prepared for an upcoming assessment by reviewing statistics concepts such as mean, median, mode, and range using sample assignment exercises.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related habits emerged across different year levels.

A Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework or begin their maths assignment, with notes stating, "needs to prioritize his maths assignment more, because he has not made any attempts to the assignment yet."

In Year 7 algebra sessions, a reluctance to show working steps led to repeated sign errors—"he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

For a Year 11 statistics task, incomplete communication with the teacher meant key concepts like Measures of Spread were left unclear and unaddressed before deadlines.

Recent Achievements

One Tanah Merah tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with algebra now finishing equations more efficiently and explaining her reasoning out loud, which marks a real shift from just guessing.

In Year 7, another student who previously rushed through problem-solving is now showing each step of his working and talking through the process—he even asked for harder questions after acing a quiz on percentages.

Meanwhile, in primary, two students went from waiting for hints to wanting to complete maths sums independently before asking the tutor to check their work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Hyperdome Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loganholme State School.
