I believe the key purpose of an economics tutor is not only to improve a students grades but also encourage intellectual curiosity. Due to the individuality of each student a personalised experience must be created by tutors, through adapting teaching methods and lesson plans, to stimulate the unique minds of students. Further tutors must…

Support their learning whilst ensuring they can maintain a healthy relationship with school and studying. I don't believe VCE alone defines your future, and hope that whilst people achieve to their full potential, they don'rtt do so at the cost of their mental health. Life has many pathways, and an economics tutor should support their students to…

The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to be a role model. Someone who can sympathise with the difficulties and experiences of a student and can give them effective strategies for personal development to set them ahead. Understanding goes a long way in furthering trust and academic confidence for a student. Asking them…

Good preparation before tutorials is essential. We also need to Know the students' ability and level of understaniding on the subjects, so that good explanations can be provided them. Besides, a little quizzes, drills and exercises may help student to be familiar to the subjects. I am patient to student. And I am eager to explain different…

I think the most important thing an economics tutor should do is understand the learning pattern and style of the student. Every student learns differently, simply using one method is not enough. As I try to see, I try to understand how different students learn and understand different content. Through the process, i try to find what is the most…

I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is build confidence. Sometime, all it takes is confidence for a student who is unsure about their abilities to really flourish. I'd say my strengths lie in being patient. Given I have recently graduated from highschool, it means I have a better understanding of what students…

*As an economics tutor most important thing is to understand the student and be friendly with the students .So that they can discuss there promblems easily without any hesitation. * As a tutor i should know about the level of the student and about the student in what ways he/she loves to learn because learning cannot be done with a force full…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them instead of doing the work for them. It is important for the students to feel that they have control over what they are learning and for them to be encouraged through feedback and practice. I am a very patient, determined and creative person. I can understand what a student…

1. Patience with the student. 2. Flexibility with methods of teaching to adapt to the student. 3. Using all the available resources to make sure the student understands best. 4. Being a good listener by not dominating the conversation and listening to understand the student. I make an attempt to adapt myself to every case. There is no one way…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to cultivate the interest and engagement of the students. In Chinese, there is an idiom that roughly translates to "Interest is the best teacher", by actively engaging the interests of students you make learning not a chore, but rather a joy. I believe that my biggest strength lies in my…

I think the most important thing is that the tutor and the student have a relationship in which the student is able to express their concerns and needs. This allows the tutor to individualise the study experience, to most benefit the client! I am positive and motivating. I know tutoring can be confronting and stressful at times and I would like to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, not to just explain a certain problem but to help them understand the concept behind it, explain to them why they are doing it. Students need to be motivated, without motivation students lose the desire to learn. I feel that if students understand why they have to do it maths or English…

Inside The BasinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Daniel worked on building confidence with times tables and understanding fractions, using visual aids for tricky concepts.

In Year 10, Sarah practised solving simultaneous equations and strengthened her grasp of linear graphing through real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack focused on applying calculus to rates of change and integration problems, followed by revision of exponential and logarithmic equations in preparation for exams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Methods, skipping working steps in calculus ("he sometimes makes small mistakes due to skipping working steps which results in errors") led to incorrect answers that could have been caught with clearer layout.

For a Year 8 student, forgetting area and volume rules made it hard to tackle multi-step geometry problems; laying out problems more systematically was flagged as essential for future study.

In VCE revision, one student hesitated to revisit tough questions after setbacks—confidence wavered instead of retrying with fresh eyes.

During Year 12 exam prep, unclear use of formulas meant time was lost re-reading questions rather than solving them.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in The Basin noticed some real shifts recently. In Year 12, Jazz had previously struggled with advanced differentiation problems, but this week she managed to solve nearly all book questions on her own, only needing help for one particularly complex example.

For a Year 9 student, Jess had trouble reading and drawing graphs just two weeks ago; now she can confidently graph and interpret data without support.

Meanwhile, Hayden in primary school used to avoid practicing his times tables between lessons—now he completes them independently and even explains fraction concepts using models like pizza slices.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School.
