A tutor is there for support no matter what they are teaching. A tutor should always provide reasonable goals that a student can work towards with there guidance. I love working with kids and I feel as though I am a patient person when it comes to teaching. I believe I give thorough feedback and areas to improve…

The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to be understanding and friendly to them so that they don't hesitate to share their problems. focusing more on the topics they find difficult to understand and being there for them for as long as they need is the best thing a tutor can do. My strength as a tutor is I understand math can be…

The best mentors I've had were the ones that pushed me to see my own potential the way they easily could, espicially when I came close to giving up. They reignited my passion for the hard subjects through their own love for the content, and through the way they connected concepts to daily life, bringing the subject to life. I believe a tutor's…

To recognise that no two students are the same and that a process like learning needs to be personalised so that the best results are achieved. This personalisation also means that its much more likely for the student to open up and fully engage in the process of assisted learning as they can feel that the session is catered just towards their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only be able to teach them the material, but to also be able to mentor them. By mentoring, I mean having a close, trusting relationship with your student in order to help them improve their skills on a daily basis. The mentoring relationship allows learning to go beyond…

What a tutor should and need to do are guiding a child to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses with all of the power invested in ourselves; reminding and figuring out what their barriers are to success (such as are they afraid of they can't pass? or they are not receiving any support from their beloved ones?). In my power, I'd do…

The most important thing is to listen and understand your students. Once you understand what they want and need, and how they work, you can develop teaching and learning methods that can push them to their best selves. Communication is also vital in a tutor-student dynamic. I tend to observe people a lot, so it’s easy for me to figure out their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is providing them with a positive experience relating to schooling which they can bring into their formal education, overall increasing their confidence, grades and mood. What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student is understanding the pace the student requires and not focusing on how much a student can complete in a set time. Another one is being available for the student when possible as students may not think of questions or ideas when they are with me. My strengths as a tutor is…

Help them gain confidence, and for them to do the best they can. Students that require tutoring are often ones that lack confidence in a subject area. Tutors are there to strengthen and encourage them. Breaking down difficult concepts and passing on my knowledge to students. Also, finding where a student has difficulty and working with them to…

One of the most important things a teacher can do for their student is to listen. Not to listen to think of the next response but to listen to understand. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is approaching the student as the centre. The most important thing a tutor can do is make sure they don't generalize their teaching across all students. Inside TullamarineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Adam focused on distinguishing between prime and composite numbers and converting percentages to decimals, while also practising how to change mixed numbers into improper fractions.

In Year 8, Jasmine worked through simplifying algebraic expressions and factorisation, then solved linear equations with real examples.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Lucas tackled problems involving the area and circumference of circles as well as applying the formula for the area of a trapezium using step-by-step calculations.

Recent Challenges

Homework was left incomplete across several year levels.

In Year 7, an algebraic expressions task and a linear equation worksheet were not finished; the tutor noted, "he attempted only half of the assigned problems before moving on."

A Year 8 student working on factorisation also submitted partial work, often skipping written steps when solutions got tricky.

Messy or unstructured working made it hard to spot calculation errors in Year 6 fraction exercises—scratchings crowded margins, making review difficult.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 3 multiplication tended to rely on oral answers rather than writing out full tables, which led to gaps during class revision.

Recent Achievements

One Tullamarine tutor noticed a big change in Bella (Year 4), who used to need step-by-step support with subtraction but now tackles problems with borrowing by herself.

In Year 7 maths, a student who'd been hesitant about algebra is completing textbook exercises independently on representing variables and simplifying expressions—last week they even finished most of their yearly exam corrections without prompting.

Meanwhile, a high school art student has started experimenting with digital photo manipulation for their project after initially struggling to find inspiration; this week, they produced an unexpected new look using Photoshop's pen tool and gradient map.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladstone Park Community Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Tullamarine Primary School.
