What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I've been tutored before by a family friend. I enjoyed the pace of work because it was 1-on-1, and I was able to work at my own learning speed as well as ask questions that I normally wouldn't have asked in class. I liked how my tutor tried different methods best suited for my learning style and would give me extra practise after teaching me!
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Since I'm the oldest sibling out of 5 kids, I feel like I've had a lot of experience trying to explain concepts for my siblings to understand. I have a lot of patience and I'm super understanding that not everyone learns the same way, (some people prefer visual instructions whereas other prefer verbal direction). My strengths are understanding this and tailoring it to each student.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to understand them, take the time to get to know them and make them feel comfortable to learn. As a tutor its important to create a positive atmosphere around learning, making it fun! Especially for younger grades, turning learning into a game can promote engagement and memory regarding the content. Its also important for the tutor to make the environment comfortable enough for the student to ask questions about what they're unsure of, making their questions feel valid and not 'stupid'.

This tutor’s commitment to student wellbeing shines through her involvement in youth mental health advocacy and peer mentorship programs. Alannah has participated in life skills workshops, etiquette training, and leadership development, which enhance her ability to support students beyond academics. Her volunteer work includes providing homework help at primary schools and creating resources tailored to young learners’ needs.
Creative Approaches to Student Success
Alannah is recognised by peers for developing innovative ways to engage students, demonstrated during her time as Captain of College Culture on the Student Representative Council. She consistently seeks out opportunities to connect with students through community service, event organisation, and social justice initiatives.
