Good preparation before tutorials is essential. We also need to Know the students' ability and level of understaniding on the subjects, so that good explanations can be provided them. Besides, a little quizzes, drills and exercises may help student to be familiar to the subjects. I am patient to student. And I am eager to explain different…

I believe the key purpose of an economics tutor is not only to improve a students grades but also encourage intellectual curiosity. Due to the individuality of each student a personalised experience must be created by tutors, through adapting teaching methods and lesson plans, to stimulate the unique minds of students. Further tutors must…

Support their learning whilst ensuring they can maintain a healthy relationship with school and studying. I don't believe VCE alone defines your future, and hope that whilst people achieve to their full potential, they don'rtt do so at the cost of their mental health. Life has many pathways, and an economics tutor should support their students to…

I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is build confidence. Sometime, all it takes is confidence for a student who is unsure about their abilities to really flourish. I'd say my strengths lie in being patient. Given I have recently graduated from highschool, it means I have a better understanding of what students…

Increasing a student's grade or helping them understand a single concept are just some of the things that most people look for in an economics tutor. While these are undoubtedly worthwhile indicators of a tutor's ability to teach a student, they are often mercurial and temporary once the tutoring stops. I firmly believe that what differentiates a…

I think so rather than just teaching them if an economics tutor can actually make hard concepts easier for other students by using their experience and actually make learning fun then it would be really helpful for a student. I think the most important thing an economics tutor should do is understand the learning pattern and style of the student. Every student learns differently, simply using one method is not enough. As I try to see, I try to understand how different students learn and understand different content. Through the process, i try to find what is the most…

In my opinion, the relationship beyond subject tutoring is the most important aspect of an economics tutor. A great tutor must have the ability to connect deeply with the students to give them personalised teaching methods and materials, which ultimately increase both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching. In order of doing so, a tutor must…

The key to a successful tutor-student partnership is instilling confidence in the student, reducing stress, and catering specifically to the needs of the individual. A great tutor doesn't just explain how to get through the work; they listen and encourage students to ask questions so that students recognize that they can succeed even when they…

I believe a good tutor has the ability to transcend their role as a tutor and become a role model for their students. I think a good tutor needs to be patient with the student. Inside Wantirna SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Zoey worked on rearranging algebraic expressions for graphing and solving quadratic equations, as well as reviewing LCM, factors, and long division to prepare for her non-calculator exam.

In Year 9, Amy focused on surface area of 3D objects by tackling textbook questions and practicing backchecking techniques, along with revising atoms and isotopes for an upcoming science test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia strengthened her understanding of financial maths concepts such as compound interest and depreciation through targeted homework review and real-world application problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student in maths often avoided writing out full working when facing unfamiliar problems, leading to jumbled steps and confusion; as one tutor noted, "her working out was sometimes incoherent because she hesitated to write unless sure."

In Year 10 financial maths, missing a single tax calculation step meant every subsequent answer was affected.

For a senior student tackling algebra and trigonometry, revision focused mainly on easy material instead of challenging questions—this limited their ability to adapt in new contexts.

During an English task, uncertainty about how to start an essay caused significant delays before any writing began.

Recent Achievements

One Wantirna South tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously missed simple marks due to untidy maths writing is now consistently setting out solutions with clear steps and correct units, which has helped avoid small but costly errors.

A Year 8 student, after struggling to rearrange algebraic expressions for several weeks, began applying the techniques independently this week and even tackled new graphing problems without prompting.

In a recent primary session, a Year 4 student who used to guess answers in long division now talks through each step aloud and checks her own work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Knox Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wantirna South Primary School.
