The most important thing I tutor can do for their student is to be compassionate and be a person they feel comfortable approaching when they're in doubt. Just doing this will make it so much easier for the students to ask for what they need instead of feeling hesitant that they'll look unintelligent. It also helps me really understand their…

One important thing a tutor can do is clearly understand what a student wants with their tutor. For example, if a student already know concepts really well, a tutor should be able to identify this and spend more time on areas where a student may struggle. Furthermore, it is important to consider the student first and foremost. A tutor should be…

The tutor must help the student improve in the subject they are teaching. This involves explaining things clearly so the student can understand and are thus enabled to tackle such questions and tasks on their own in the future. I also believe that the tutor must make the student feel comfortable around them. If it is possible to do without…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to understand how the student learns. By knowing the students learning preferences and ability the tutor can tailor their approach to individuals rather than utilising a blanket approach, which can often leave some students behind. Tutors can do so much for students. To choose a few, a tutor should be honest and always try their best to educate and assist the student to their best capacity. Moreover, allowing the student to be okay with failing and making mistakes as part of the journey without feeling ashamed is critical to building their self-confidence and understanding…

Tutors are valuable to a student, and offer something unique. For one, meaningful relationships can be built and developed in tutoring, which in turn builds engagement. From my personal experience, learning comes more easily when the teacher strives to craft close relationships with students. From the tedium of the classroom, tutors can also…

Inside Warwick FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Oliver practised converting decimals to fractions and percentages, and tackled basic algebraic problems from schoolwork.

In Year 8, Aryan explored foundational concepts in electricity using worksheets and reviewed electronics basics for science.

Meanwhile, Madison in Year 10 worked on mean, median, and standard deviation calculations in maths before shifting focus to analysing poems and developing writing skills for English assignments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 mathematics, skipping written steps in complex algebra led to repeated sign errors; as a tutor noted, "writing out all his working helps him slow down and see the correct solution."

In a Year 8 geometry lesson, confusion arose when identifying corresponding angles—insufficient note-taking habits made it hard to recall proofs.

For a primary student, reluctance to complete maths homework meant gaps in basic division persisted week-to-week.

One Year 10 student lost momentum during multi-step problems, with focus drifting after initial confidence faded. This left questions half-finished and core concepts unrevised by the end of each session.

Recent Achievements

A Warwick Farm tutor noticed one high school student who previously hesitated to ask for help now regularly checks his understanding by asking clarifying questions during electronics lessons, showing much more active engagement than before.

Another older student struggled with quadratic equations earlier in the term but has started using a systematic approach to convert worded problems into algebraic equations and can now solve them independently, even remembering to include units in his answers.

In a recent primary session, Maximus, who often mixed up number sequences, was able to recognise the correct order of single-digit numbers on his own without extra prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Liverpool City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Warwick Farm Public School.
