Inside WestmeadTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex worked on mastering long division and practiced rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred.

In Year 7, Emily focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages, tackling lots of practice questions to build confidence with these essential skills.

For Year 9, Jason reviewed algebra by practicing rearranging equations and expanding brackets, helping solidify his understanding for upcoming classwork.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping careful checks during long division led to persistent calculation errors; as noted, "she needs to slow down and double check each step."

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided homework or completed it without effort—one session's work was "all incorrect" due to not reading instructions.

In Year 11 algebra, over-reliance on following memorised steps rather than understanding why those steps worked caused confusion when tackling new problem types.

For a Year 4 student, untidy written work made it hard to track mistakes and fix them, especially in times tables tasks. Missed homework and rushed presentation left key misunderstandings unresolved.

Recent Achievements

One Westmead tutor noticed a Year 8 student who used to avoid speaking up is now actively seeking clarification whenever she gets stuck, making it much easier to pinpoint misunderstandings early.

In a recent high school session, another student who'd struggled with algebraic expansion and factorisation was able to work through several challenging problems without needing step-by-step prompts—last term, he'd freeze at the first sign of difficulty.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 4 made a leap by recalling all her times tables during practice, something she previously hesitated to attempt out loud.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wentworthville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Parramatta Marist High School.
