As always, the first session was directed towards engaging with Gabriel and endeavouring to assess both his strengths and his needs. Given the principle need to assist Gabriel's written English (see below), the initial strategy has been to 'share-read' a relevant text with Gabriel with a view to his becoming more familiar with the fundamental aspects of sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
She often lacks self belief and persistence, which is something I am hoping to improve to move away from the mindset that giving up is the easiest option. Often she has a positive and friendly attitude.
For many concepts only minor tutoring is required, overall her understanding of mathematics seems quite alright. She does very well given a certain methodology (evidenced by her love of the quadratic formula for example haha) so we will now try to move away from method and towards a deeper understanding (towards what exactly the quadratic formula DOES for example, so she's not married to the method).

Hi Erica, thank you for your email. Things have started well with Jacob and hopefully they will continue in the same way. I think in this case, the difference for Jamie is that she can ask Jacob about a problem that she is struggling with and he can answer her straight away. Vivian was able to answer her too but it took her longer and I think the time factor was what was frustrating Jamie. As I'm sure you are aware in year 12 there is such a time crunch that any delays just add more pressure.
Hi Erica Thanks for the email. Yes, everything is going very well. Daniel is finding Yuta to be very helpful and has definitely been able to identify areas of weakness that require work. We are all very pleased with the progress to date.
Morgan has responded very well already with Hazel. She said her explanations of problems has made her maths much more easier. We are very happy with Hazel.
