I think that it's really important to be a good listener so that you can use feedback from students to improve your teaching. Not everyone learns in the same way so it's really important to work with each student to find the learning tehniques that work best for them. It's also important to recognise that each student could prefer different…

The most important things a tutor can do are to provide individualized lessons, clear communication, and personalized support. By understanding each student's unique needs, strengths, and weaknesses, tutors can tailor their teaching methods to suit their learning style and pace. As a tutor, I am able to effectively communicate with students as…

Enhancing their interests in learning, building up their confidence, and preparing them to tackle the day-to-day homeworks / assginments, then tests and examinations. I think students would appreciate when tutors can find a suitable and effective style of elaborating problem-solving methods to them, and then further gain the ability to solve similar questions without additional help. I am very patient and enthusiastic about helping students figure out solutions to questions. I can also offer remote tutoring…

It depends a little bit on age but the older they get the more important confidence is going to be and giving the students confidence is the most important job. I'm not going to teach a 12 year old a lot more, they have spent years in school and they have all the knowledge they need. The important job of tutor is to make them believe that they…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can provide a student is confidence. It is paramount that a tutor encourages the student to become intrinsically motivated to study and to cultivate a love for the subject, as this will allow the student to fully achieve their potential. Ensuring that a student has confidence and self belief can be just as…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to keep the student engaged. Often students in tutoring are behind in work because they lose focus in a classroom or simply find it boring. Being able to hone a student's attention to the work will dramatically improve their chances of success. I can often work with different learning styles,…

I feel being flexible and adopting new methods is important since no 2 persons are the same and everyone learns differently. It should be recognized that just because something works for someone, it may not work for someone else. I think my strength is coming up with creative ways to convey something. Building a strong self-esteem is the most important thing as no student should feel incapable of achieving high scores or have anxiety towards school. I believe it is important for a tutor to possess strong communication skills as well as patience. These traits are essential to establishing the trust needed for a successful partnership with the student. Furthermore, a tutor must be able to facilitate the growth and development of the student, rather than simply showing them how to solve…

It is important that a tutor is able to put themselves in the position of the student, so they can see clearly what it is that the student struggles to understand. A tutor should also be understanding that different students have different ways of learning and that there is not just one way of teaching that suits every student. I am good at…

First, I think a tutor should have good subject and curriculum knowledge so that they may be able to provide as much information as they can towards the kids. I think communication skills is another important thing a tutor must have (the way they explain the topics so that it is easy for the students to understand). Finally a tutor must be patient…

A tutor is responsible for motivating a student in order to achieve excellent grades. Apart from Academics, I value teaching life skills and life values to students. They should be a good person before being a good employee. Each student is a different person and it…

Inside WilsonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Sofia worked through perimeter and area of 2D shapes, along with converting metric lengths using practical measurement examples.

In Year 9, James tackled simultaneous equations and explored trigonometric functions, applying these to problem-solving tasks.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily focused on binomial expansion and quadratic equations, practising step-by-step algebraic techniques to build confidence for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed progress in algebra assignments but tended to rely on memory for formulas rather than using the provided formula sheet—"I have corrected him about it," the tutor noted, which previously led to avoidable mistakes.

In Year 11, one student's confidence remained low despite solid understanding; hesitation to attempt questions slowed test practice and sometimes caused second-guessing.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled with differentiating addition and subtraction symbols, often pausing mid-task for clarification.

Occasional distractions during tutorials, especially for Year 8s, meant extra time was spent regaining focus instead of moving forward with new content.

Recent Achievements

One Wilson tutor noticed a Year 9 student who had been hesitant to ask for help now starting sessions by bringing up questions from class, a shift from his earlier habit of staying quiet when stuck.

In Year 11, another student previously struggled with dividing ratios but, after some guided practice, was able to explain the process back and complete several problems independently.

A younger primary student who found adding and subtracting numbers confusing last term now volunteers to solve examples on her own during lessons and has begun completing similar homework tasks without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Riverton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wilson Primary School.
