The most important thing is probably making the student feel confident in his/her own abilities, and at the same time, also develop a conceptual understanding of the subject so memorisation is disregarded. I am patient and sympathetic, as I understand what it is like to be frustrated with a subject and find it hard to comprehend a concept. I am…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is creating a safe environment during the session in which the student is not scared of asking questions, making mistakes or feels external pressures that might not let them give their best. My ability to adapt to the different needs the student might have as well as constantly reinforcing the…

The most important thing for a tutor to do is to make sure the student is understanding them. It is highly important to teach in a way that is most effective for each individual student, that way they are maximising their improvements. I am highly patient and have many way to describe various scenarios or to…

A tutor should always allow a student to figure out problem entirely by themselves. The worst thing to do is to solve everything for the student. A student should feel he/she is a smart logical human being, he/she just need a bit of guidance and assistance, however, no one undermines his/her abilities. I am patient and enthusiastic at the same…

Building the student's confidence is, in my opinion, the most crucial thing I must do as a tutor. Learning, in my opinion, is simple; if you put forth the effort, you can always become a good learner. However, many students find it difficult to be self-assured. In my opinion, as a tutor, I must gradually boost pupils' self-assurance in their…

To boost confidence and motivation. I believe that you cannot force a student to learn, but you can guide them to do their best. If the student does not wish to learn, there is not much I can do to improve their grades. But, if the students are highly motivated and willing to learn, even if their grades are below average, they can rapidly improve…

It's often frustrating not to understand what is being taught in class and feeling behind. In addition to teaching and explaining the academic material, I believe a good tutor also provides encouragement to the students and potentially even evoke inspiration and genuine curiosity in that field. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are threefold. First, build confidence, many students already know more than they think, but anxiety or past frustration gets in the way. A tutor should help them trust their own ability. Second, teach how to think, not just what to think. In subjects like chemistry and physics,…

I think a tutor must be extremely understanding of a students concerns and queries regarding their work. Also, not only must a tutor be well versed in the content, they must also develop ways to explain these concepts to students who have a lack of understanding or no understanding at all, tailored to the needs of that particular individual. I am…

I believe the most important thing is for a tutor to help students ask the right questions in their learning journey, rather than just helping them find…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to like a teacher equip students with the ability and tools to approach the problem. Rather than rote learning, giving students the tools allows them to approach problems that they may not have seen as well as that which they had prepared for. Shifting teaching and explanatory methods to …

Inside WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Nicholas practised converting mixed numbers to decimals and ordering decimals, then moved on to rounding decimals to different place values.

In Year 9, Ava worked through SOH-CAH-TOA trigonometry rules for right triangles and solved word problems using the Pythagorean theorem.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Matthew focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions—including perfect squares—and applied these skills in exercises involving difference of two squares.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, incomplete homework meant key credit card and interest concepts were forgotten—this showed up in quiz struggles. "A significant amount of knowledge...was lost over the last week due to incompletion of homework," a tutor noted.

In Physics (Year 12), written work for mechanics topics was sometimes hard to follow, with missed steps during multi-part calculations leading to errors that slowed progress on Module 5 questions.

For a Year 8 student, skipping working on paper and relying only on mental maths led to confusion in algebra problems; this habit made it harder to spot where mistakes crept in.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Windsor noticed one high school student who used to skip note-taking now diligently writes down key tips and even refers back to them when tackling new material.

Another secondary student, after weeks of struggling with logarithms, finally began applying log rules independently during practice questions, marking a real turning point in their understanding.

In Year 4, a younger learner who often guessed at answers started raising her hand to ask clarifying questions instead—showing she's becoming more comfortable seeking help rather than staying silent or guessing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prahran / Windsor Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windsor Primary School.
