I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student’s confidence, not just help them get the answer. A good tutor should be patient, supportive, and able to explain concepts clearly step by step. It is also important to create a comfortable environment where the student feels safe to make mistakes, ask questions, and slowly…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. A tutor's job is to fuel their students' love for learning, make them independent, and lend them a hand when it is needed. A tutor has to be available for a student and has to be a concrete source of education. I am capable of explaining a concept to students in multiple different ways, which directly aids their understanding. I am very…

Help them enjoy learning. The role of a tutor should be to engage the student and make the learning process fun, encouraging them to put more effort into their learning, consequently improving their results. As well as this, it is vital that a tutor guide the student to a solution rather than simply giving them the answer, allowing them to…

Being a role model and mentor to the student, both academically and in life. By helping them develop their skills in the subject area, a tutor models approaches to thinking, problem solving and one's attitude towards learning. I think effective tutors support students all students to achieve their best and develop their mindset and work ethic so…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not teach them how to answer a specific question but to ensure they understand the logic behind the answering methodology. Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Be able to react to a student's needs as they develop and progress in order to continue learning as efficiently as possible. I believe I am relatable and good…

Having empathy, because not all content comes too easy for students as it does for us, obviously. Having patience, because it can be frustrating if a tutor just expects a student to "get it" immediately. Being kind. A tutor needs to be patient and build a healthy learning curve. One of the most important things for a tutor is to be encouraging and positive. Negativity can lead to resentment towards a subject and deflect the student from making a genuine effort to learn. A tutor also needs to be well-versed with the material so they can teach the student as…

Building their confidence first. A student who believes they can improve will put in the effort. Beyond that, teach them how to think through problems independently so they don't need you forever. And really listen to where they're struggling because what a student says they don't understand and what they actually don't understand are often two…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. El-Abed is a great tutor. He is very dedicated and is passionate about maths. This translates very well with his tutoring style. El-Abed is very patient with his students, and really takes the time to explain each problem. Communication between the Ezymath office and myself is excellent. They respond in a timely manner, and are very supportive with any issues.

Inside Wolli CreekTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sophie focused on cylinders and circles, as well as comparing discrete and continuous data sets using mean, median, and mode.

In Year 11, Ethan practised solving trigonometric functions within restricted domains and worked on graphing these functions for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Emily applied differentiation rules to find equations of tangents and normals to curves, alongside further revision of rates of change using exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Advanced Maths, one student struggled with exam time management—"please also be mindful to allocate the time accordingly to the marks"—resulting in rushed explanations despite strong understanding.

Another in Year 10 Mathematics avoided showing full working for algebraic steps, which hid sign errors and slowed feedback.

In Year 8 Science, note-taking habits were inconsistent, leading to missed key terms during revision.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner found it hard to follow story sequencing and often skipped reading back aloud, making comprehension and problem-solving more difficult when tackling worded maths questions.

Recent Achievements

One Wolli Creek tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to tackle harder calculus problems now choosing to graph complex derivatives independently, applying rules for trigonometric and exponential functions without prompting.

In a Year 9 session, another student who used to skip practice questions in probability began working through each step aloud, asking clarifying questions rather than guessing—showing much more initiative than before.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 4 has started sounding out unfamiliar words with little encouragement and can now retell stories in her own words after reading each chapter.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Arncliffe Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Al Zahra College.
