By explaining complex concepts in a simple and understandable manner, a tutor helps students grasp difficult topics…

The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. This is something I've learned from the example of my previous tutor who answered almost every email or text message within the hour within reason. I believe showing this constant support allows the student to trust us as tutors and react more…

Teaching the content required within a particular subject is only the start of what a tutor can do for their student, but teaching them how to apply everything they have learned to not only the subject at hand but how they are tested within that subject. Since going through the HSC I have learned that some subjects teach content in a very…

Patience and understanding. Patience, so that the student never feels the tutor is only there for the job - but is there for them to learn. This helps in building a students confidence. Understanding, so that the tutor knows that students learn different concepts at different rates and in different ways. Being able to approach the same problem…

The most important thing which a tutor can do for a student is to make him understand the concept instead of just showing him how to solve the problems. If a student understands the concept well then he can solve any type of problem. As I tutor , my strengths are understanding the level of teaching required for any particular student. Each student…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a students confidence and independent critical thinking skills. Its not just about helping them get the right answers, but teaching them how to approach problems on their own. A good tutor should create a positive environment, providing clear guidance, and gradually help the student to…

Being friendly and adapting their teaching speed to the pace of the student. not having one universal teaching style, but altering it is how you keep the student interested and make it easier for them to grasp the concept. For example, using sports examples to explain a physics concept to a high school athlete will keep them engaged longer and add…

In my opinion, for a student to always be good at studying and getting good grades every time, the student has to master appropriate studying strategies. Hence, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student how to study "smartly" and be more productive. Moreover, in high school, I used to go to coaching centre…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is to make a student understand the most difficult topics for him/her. every teacher impacts students differently it all comes down to how effectively you're able to explain concepts within the range of the student's surroundings. I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to enrich their understanding and reinvigorate or catalyze a passion in a particular subject. Nowadays, a student's passion for a particular subject dwindles as they go further and further into their high school career. This may be due to external factors such as pressure or…

Inside WoodparkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan revised multiplication strategies and practiced adding fractions with unlike denominators using visual models.

In Year 7, Emily focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and tackled problems involving elapsed time.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Jack worked through multiplying and dividing fractions as well as multi-digit multiplication questions, including mixed numbers and their decimal equivalents.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often skipped writing out working in long division, relying on mental calculations—this sometimes led to errors that were hard to trace ("most of the questions were done in his head and could cause silly mistakes").

In Year 9 English, another student hesitated to expand answers or reference texts for comprehension, preferring short responses rather than building structure.

A senior student tackling essay planning struggled with organizing ideas, leading to unclear arguments.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner avoided practicing harder times tables, sticking to addition strategies even when multiplication was required.

Recent Achievements

One Woodpark tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously rushed through long division now showing real patience and planning—reading each question carefully and planning her next steps before answering.

A Year 8 student, after struggling with the concept of algorithms for several sessions, was finally able to pick up new methods immediately and worked through square roots without hesitation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once guessed at answers during reading comprehension is now pausing to locate information in the text and referencing where she found her answers before responding.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sherwood Grange Public School.
