A tutor can be understanding and try to have enough knowledge to guide and answer all of the questions the student has. The tutor needs to create a welcoming environment so the students don't hesitate to ask questions, in fact they should be encouraged. I can be very patient and understanding when it comes to people and students who need more than…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster confidence, provide clarity, and cultivate a genuine interest in learning. A tutor should explain complex concepts in simplified manner, guiding the student through challenging material in a way that makes it relatable. A great tutor can spark curiosity and help the…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is aiding their understanding in their learning. By helping a student understand what they are being taught or what they need help with, it can stimulate their passion within the subject and evoke curiosity about the subject and its applications. I am open-minded and communicative so I…

Tutors bear the responsibility to provide students with clarity and a deep understanding of the subject matter. This involves simplifying complex concepts, breaking them down into digestible pieces, and guiding students through the learning process. A tutor's ability to pass knowledge in a way that resonates with students is essential. Every…

As a tutor, rather than just explaining the content of a topic, I believe that it is more to understand the doubts a student may have. If the student does not bring up any doubts, the tutor must then slowly check their understanding of the topic bit by bit by prompting questions frequently. Another thing to keep in mind is to never give the answer…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s self-efficacy by transforming the way they approach challenges. Rather than just providing answers, a tutor should demystify the struggle of learning, showing the student that getting stuck is a natural part of the problem-solving process rather than a sign of failure. By moving away…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

A tutor has to be flexible enough to change their teaching style and methods according to the student's learning styles and capabilities. No two students are the same which means adaptability becomes a key skill that a tutor has to have and be able to provide a well tailored tutoring style for the student. Moreover, a tutor has to be kind and…

I think the most important thing is the personalized experience a tutor can give a student. This way tutors can help the students as an individual on their personal weaknesses and help then grow. I think my strongest strength…

It is not about the result it is how you get there. Although I do believe a tutor should boost the student's grades in school, I also strongly believe that a tutor must teach in a way that a student understands and enjoys. I would make sure my student understands the concept while enjoying what he is doing. I want to ignite the passion I have in…

By paying attention to a student, a tutor can easily determine what the student needs support in and how the tutor can best provide it. Beyond just helping with grades, I think the most valuable thing a tutor can do is help a student feel capable. Academic skills are important, but confidence and mindset are everything. A tutor should create an environment where it’s okay to ask “silly†questions, make mistakes, and learn at your own pace. At the end of the day, it’s…

A tutor should create a safe and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. It’s also important to tailor teaching to the student’s individual needs and pace, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The most important thin, in my opinion, is recognising that every student learns differently. A good tutor needs to be flexible and have a deep, well-rounded understanding of the subject so they can explain concepts in different ways, depending on what suits the student best. I come from a family of teachers, so I’ve been surrounded by effective…

I believe being a good role model for a student is the most important thing a tutor can do. When a tutor serves as a positive role model, they provide students with an example to embrace and emulate. Local Reviews

Rosie is tutoring my child in year 7 maths and has built up a great rapport with her. Through my observations I can see that Rosie has a strong understanding of maths and is able to explain ideas and concepts very easily. She has a lot of patience and always checks my daughters understanding and offers alternative explanations where needed. Rosie is always punctual, friendly and polite and I am very happy with the progress that has been made to date.

Inside ZetlandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student William worked on correcting homework covering simple interest and surds, along with catching up missed class content.

For Year 9, revision with Ben focused on dividing and multiplying fractions as well as tackling negative and fractional indices in surds.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Xavier practised converting remainders into decimals, solved word problems, and labelled different types of triangles using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left several steps unwritten when tackling algebraic equations, as one tutor noted: "he tried to do everything in his head instead of writing it down." This led to confusion over signs and made errors harder to spot.

In Year 11, incomplete homework meant that basic perfect square practice was missed, so extra time had to be spent revisiting foundational rules rather than progressing.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on division often forgot her materials at home, causing delays while searching for worksheets and slowing the start of each session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zetland noted that William, a Year 10 student, has started attempting every maths question instead of skipping the tough ones—a real shift from earlier sessions when he'd often give up if stuck.

In Year 11, after struggling with surd problems last term, he was able to recall the steps and solve similar questions independently this week, using his own notes for support.

Meanwhile, Elliott (Year 5) used to stay quiet during lessons but now openly talks through his reasoning on each English question and even asks for extra examples when something feels tricky. Last session, he wrote down all his ideas without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Green Square Public School.
