Having a strong internal drive to learn and micro-teaching skills I think is the key role in tutoring. In my opinion, tutoring is not only teaching but also a part of learning experience that enables us to recall and applying the knowledge we have because it is a proof that we have understood what we have already learned. Micro-skill is the second…

As a tutor, what I believe to be important for a student is the ability to not only push but to better the student in their schooling career. My years of high school were spent with teachers who picked favourites and let me fade into the background. As a tutor, I would enjoy seeing the potential in someone and letting them see that for themselves.…

A tutor's most important role is to listen, observe, and provide students with the necessary tools and strategies to learn effectively. By doing so, tutors can help students overcome academic challenges, develop lifelong learning skills, and foster a cycle of confidence, motivation, and success. I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

Inside ZillmereTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jessica focused on differentiation, learning to interpret the slope and smoothness of lines in real-world contexts, as well as refining her assignment writing by articulating mathematical assumptions and observations.

Year 10 student Zara worked through quadratic concepts such as completing the square and difference of two squares, alongside practical factorising using multiplicative primes.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Darci strengthened her understanding of angles and probability, plus practiced simplifying and solving fraction word problems using visual strategies.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, Jacob struggled to plan regular practice and balance his schedule as the workload increased—"this is sort of a buffering period," noted his tutor, but gaps in routine meant last-minute revision before assessments.

For senior Maths, Jessica's written work needed clearer structure; she often left "solve" and "verify" sections incomplete in assignments, which made it hard to track her reasoning or spot errors early.

Meanwhile, Giselle (Year 10 Science) hesitated to express her understanding out loud or use new vocabulary when tackling complex questions, leading to answers that didn't reflect her real grasp of the material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zillmere noticed that Genevieve, a high school student, has moved from frequent confusion with fractions to independently answering most questions and explaining her reasoning clearly.

Another secondary student, Zara, who previously needed support with factorising quadratics, now confidently solves complex expressions and applies simultaneous substitution without prompting.

At the primary level, Jade used to struggle visualising multiplication problems but now creates her own word problems and models solutions with diagrams. In her last session, she completed all set tasks accurately and explained her methods step by step.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chermside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Jabiru Community College.
