Having been a student myself, the greatest feeling when coming away from my tutor was a feeling of relief and greater understanding. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is simply make them feel more confident in approaching and applying concepts to questions. I believe my strengths as a tutor would be my ability to…

Definitely the most important thing a tutor can do is to help them understand the content that they are studying in order to help them reach their goals. I am able to communicate effectively and will therefore be able to impart my knowledge onto the student. I have had recent experience with year 12 exams and have done well in them. I will be able…

To recognise the student's limits, and to help them reach beyond them. A tutor should set realistic goals for students to help them stay motivated and to make progress in their learning, however, they should also encourage students to achieve higher through effective communication and tutoring support. As the student's needs should be a tutor's…

In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. When a student raises concerns about a question, which I assume in maths and sciences usually composites of concepts from multiple areas of study, I…

A tutor plays a crucial role in a student's learning journey, and there are several important things a tutor can do to effectively support their students: Every student is unique. A good tutor takes the time to understand the student's learning style, strengths, weaknesses, and goals. This understanding helps tailor the tutoring sessions to meet…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I have infinite patience, I can adjust my communication style, and I when faced with something unfamiliar I have…

I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. Or they may be on the right track and need a little guidance to fully understand a concept, making problem solving skills another thing that I try to pass on to my…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. I believe that it is important for a tutor to have trust in, and give confidence to their student to help them reach their potential. The most important things a tutor can do are: 1. Provide a safe and supportive environment where the student feels comfortable sharing their concerns. I think the most important thing is really understanding how each student learns, not just what they're struggling with. Inside AlbionTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Amber practised converting between kilograms, grams, and other units, along with long division and understanding place value.

In Year 10, Liam focused on surface area problems from Chapter 6D and E and also reviewed key trigonometry applications for non-right-angled triangles using exam prep questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel worked through anti-differentiation and differentiation concepts for his assignment, as well as tackled graphing sinusoidal functions like cosine and sine from Chapter 5.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on piece-wise functions needed extra practice breaking down complex, multi-step problems; as a tutor noted, "figuring out areas of tricky shapes required careful reading to avoid missing key details."

In Year 9, there was confusion converting units and identifying which formula applied in surface area tasks, sometimes leading to skipped sides or misapplied calculations.

For a Year 4 student, not knowing times tables made it difficult to attempt multiplication questions—"she couldn't do much multiplication practice since she doesn't know the times tables of any numbers yet," wrote one tutor. This slowed progress through longer division and multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

One Albion tutor noted a high school student who, after weeks of confusion with trigonometric functions, independently calculated B and C values for sine and cosine graphs—a real shift from needing step-by-step prompts.

Another secondary student, previously hesitant to tackle complex worded problems, started breaking down multi-step surface area questions on her own and explained her reasoning aloud without waiting for reassurance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who would often guess at answers now double-checks his working when converting decimals to fractions and consistently arranges numbers in order before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's Anglican Girls School.
