I create a safe space where they feel comfortable making mistakes, while teaching effective study strategies they can use beyond our sessions. My greatest strength as a tutor is…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own ability to learn…

I think a tutor can bring out the inner talent of a student. Suppose a student who could not able to gain a good marks in exams or failing continuously, I will give that student mental support. I will give him or her motivation by telling that you can achieve anything in your life by doing hardworking. The most important thing is that a tutor can…

A good tutor should help students develop confidence, strong study habits, and a deeper understanding of the subject so they can succeed independently in the future. I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to keep the student engaged. Often students in tutoring are behind in work because they lose focus in a classroom or simply find it boring. Being able to hone a student's attention to the work will dramatically improve their chances of success. I can often work with different learning styles,…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to break a concept down to its simplest form. In my school days, I often found this to be the easiest way to learn. If your basic foundation of any concept is strong, it gets much easier to build on that and learn more complex information pertaining to it. Moreover, being…

Being able to provide support. Clear communication, respect, and patience are essential in tutoring. Inside AscotTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lily focused on ratios and dividing with decimals, also practicing worded ratio problems from her textbook.

For Year 9, Lola worked through algebraic expressions and simultaneous equations, including strategies for adding and subtracting with negative numbers.

In Year 11, Ava tackled sketching parabolas by examining how coefficients affect their shape and applied these concepts using software to estimate real-life structures.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often completed algebra questions in cramped, unstructured layouts, leading to confusion and errors; as a tutor observed, "she sometimes tends to do her working out in a cramped space and loses her train of thoughts causing her to make mistakes."

In Year 12 Accounting, small calculation errors crept in when practice with income statements wasn't followed up by revisiting feedback or reviewing past work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student hesitated to ask questions when unsure—leaving misunderstandings unaddressed until the next lesson and slowing progress on topics like negative numbers.

Recent Achievements

One Ascot tutor recently saw a Year 11 student move from a D to a B on their latest assessment, after weeks of showing less resistance and even adding their own input when solving questions—previously, they would avoid engaging at all.

In another session, a high schooler who used to hesitate now independently completed almost an entire maths assignment without asking for help, bringing in techniques remembered from earlier lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by doing all her homework exactly as instructed and getting most answers right—a first for her this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayswater Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Belmont Primary School.
