I consider one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is build their confidence. Once this is established and the student has faith in their own abilities, the tutor is able to guide and facilitate their learning as a pose to simply instruct. The role of the tutor is to recognise what the student is capable of doing on their own…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is being patient and have the ability to explain concepts. Through my previous tutoring experiences, I've learned that it can sometimes be challenging when a student struggles with a concept that seems straightforward. However, I've learnt that the most effective way to support a student is by…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is instil an interest in learning over anything else. I believe that this creates a life long passion to learn which is an incredibly vital skill in todays society. I think my strengths as a tutor are in connecting with students. The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel comfortable and inculcate a 'can do' attitude. Make sure that they understand that if they put their mind to it, anything is possible and go along with them on that journey. I'm a 21yr old post graduate student. This puts me in roughly the same generation as the students. I…

Make a student feel supported and safe. Whether the student wants the top marks or just wants to pass, they need to feel like someone genuinely wants to help. A tutor must make sure that the student understand the course material, while making the class enjoyable at the same time. It is also essential for a tutor to give students practice questions / past paper questions to help them familiarize with the exam format, and having an answer discussion afterwards. In my mind, not only a tutor provides knowledge for a student but also brings out their best characteristics. During the teaching procedures, a tutor can help student to learn better the subject, be fond of it, and through that teaches them social skills or practical application. There are a few but I think the point of a tutor is for reinforcement. There is no way that a tutor will be able to pump out as much content as a student will be able to consume from traditional school, however with the 1 on 1 nature of tuition, tutors can take topics a lot further than a teacher would for an entire class. Not only this, a tutor…

Tutor, for me, is not only a teaching career where you come in, provide the lesson and knowledge. Tutoring is a great process where tutor and students can interact and learn from each other. Furthermore, I believe that tutoring also means supporting students' learning. Supporting, in this case, is not only about aiding students with their learning…

I believe a good tutor has the ability to transcend their role as a tutor and become a role model for their students. I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

Firstly, a tutor has to be able to understand the student's needs and then personalise a learning plan/ style that works for the student - one size does not fit all! Secondly, the tutor needs to guide the student not get them to parrot generic question answers. It's about building the students confidence up, through positive encouragement, and…

A tutor should be first able to understand the student and then what level of understanding the student has of the subject and then cater to their needs to improve their understanding. Also ensure the foundation in the subject is strong so that as it gets harder it will be easier to grasp those concepts through the basics. I have the Patience &…

The team at EzyMath tutoring are great. From the initial on-boarding to account queriers through to additional resources they have been prompt, proactive and really helpful - going above and beyond rather than just providing the basic answer. Linh, out tutor is fabulous, she is patient and knowledgeable and has provided my son with some new strategies and ways to approach his work. He's even finding himself enjoying maths and his confidence is building. I would highly recommend the team at EzyMath

Content Covered

Year 12 Will consolidated understanding of integration, focusing on finding areas between curves and definite integrals, then tackled probability concepts such as discrete random variables, expected value, and standard deviation.

For Year 12 Thanh, lessons centred on interpreting IR spectra and mass spectrometry results, alongside volumetric analysis techniques like identifying titrants and equivalence points.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Emma reviewed galvanic cells by comparing primary and secondary types and practiced explaining the limitations of electrochemical series in exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Maths Methods, Will often left classwork and chapter questions incomplete, which slowed his ability to master new concepts—one tutor noted, "Will was fairly behind his work and needed to catch up in maths."

During SACs and practice exams, inconsistent time management meant several questions were left unanswered or only partially attempted, costing valuable marks.

In Chemistry (Year 11), there was a tendency to re-ask previously answered questions without reviewing feedback, leading to repeated confusion on core ideas like titrations; as one session highlighted, "Thanh asked a few of the same questions that she asked last week."

Recent Achievements

One Ascot Vale tutor noticed a significant shift in Will, a senior student who now comes to sessions with specific questions prepared and has started tackling exam-style problems independently—something he hesitated to do before.

Another high school student, Thanh, recently brought along a set of self-identified weak points and was able to answer complex chemistry questions by linking new content to previous lessons, showing much more initiative than earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, Alice, in Year 8 science, managed to quickly apply tricky nomenclature rules for branched alkanes after initially struggling with the topic. This shows rapid mastery of concepts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ascot Vale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ascot Vale Primary School.
