In my opinion, it's most important to help students to understand basic concepts and theories when tutoring them. With these knowledge, students will have confidence to overcome problems and hardness in Maths by themselves. For the past two years, I have tutored several students in Physics and Maths, especially Math Methods year 11 and 12.…

A tutor should be a good listener so that he can find out the real area of concern of students. other than that tutor should be a good motivator, engaging, constantly learner, caring. The most important thing a tutor can do is inspire students to persevere, regardless of their current grades. Building trust and providing encouragement motivates students to stay engaged and develop confidence in their own abilities. With this foundation, students are more likely to build resilience, discover enjoyment in learning, and make…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them, and create a safe space where they feel comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes. It’s also important to connect learning to real-life examples so students see the value of what they’re…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel safe to be wrong. So many students disengage from learning because they're afraid of making mistakes or looking unintelligent. Once that fear is removed, real learning can happen. Beyond that, I think a tutor should personalise every session understanding where the student is…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. Without this ability to change as necessary you are putting your students at a significant disadvantage. Breaking down complex concepts into simple ideas. A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

The roll of a tutor is two-fold. Firstly, to help students understand the material they are working with. There are many ways to go about this, but one of the most important roles of a tutor is to be able to bring intuition to the abstract. This in addition to introducing effective methods for solving problems. The second key roll is helping…

They should develop practices that make a student's life easier and should understand the individual needs of the students. Often tutors have to…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The passion with which the tutor teaches the student matters a lot and this also influences the students influence on the subject. When a tutor teaches the student with passion, the student is definitely going to like the subject and learn with full passion as…

My daughter has constantly struggled with maths and has had 2 Ezymaths tutors. Both have been fantastic in helping to teach her the fundamentals and to build her self confidence in maths, which given how terrible I was with maths was impossible to do myself. I think I just made things worse. I would certainly recommend Ezymath tutors to anyone. Well worth the investment. Regards Trent

Inside Blair AtholTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student James revised for an upcoming **differential calculus test** by drawing sign diagrams for derivatives and finding equations of tangents to curves at given points.

A Year 12 student worked through the **chain rule and product rule in differentiation**, tackling a variety of exam-style questions to solidify understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Alex practised solving linear equations and graphing straight lines, focusing on interpreting **slope and y-intercept** from both algebraic forms and graphs.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with test timing—"if he masters this at the start of year 12, he will be ahead," noted a tutor after observing rushed solutions in calculus.

In Year 10, one student's working was crowded and hard to track; errors became harder to spot without clearer spacing between steps.

A Year 8 learner found it difficult to recall earlier algebra lessons, needing frequent review of summary sheets.

Another senior needed help "remembering trigonometric identities" but hesitated to label diagrams, which slowed progress on non-calculator tasks and left them searching for connections mid-question.

Recent Achievements

One Blair Athol tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to show working now lays out each step clearly, which helps him spot and fix mistakes himself.

A Year 8 learner, after struggling with fractions, can now confidently find lowest common multiples and perform operations with different denominators without pausing for help.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to guess when asked about prime numbers is now using continuous division accurately to identify primes and explain her reasoning out loud. Last session, she distinguished between three tricky numbers in a row using this method.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Enfield Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Paul Lutheran School.
