Motivating the student and teaching him according to his own pace is of upmost importance. Also, it is crucial that the student's marks are improving and he starts to develop a liking for that subject. I find great pleasure in teaching and has the patience to teach each student according to his own pace. I also finding that motivating the student…

I think a good tutor needs to be patient with the student. There are times that the teaching process does not go as smoothly as planned but listening helps better understand the student as well as his point of view. I have my own teaching plan and note for every student. I find myself good at spotting main points that student should focus on and…

Tutors should check for understanding as they go and constantly build confidence so that the student feels like their abilities are improving. When a student feels confident, wonderful things begin to happen. Their curiosity is ignited, and they are more likely to ask questions in class and read additional texts about things that interest them.…

A good tutor should not only teach students the answers to questions, but also the principles and processes behind the questions. Tutors must have clear communication and explanation skills to ensure students fully understand the course. In addition, it is also very important to give appropriate encouragement to students. Maybe a little…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is to build a strong and supportive relationship with students. This enables students to feel comfortable and encouraged to ask questions and seek assitance on their concerns. Another crucial aspect of tutoring will be understanding each student’s individual needs. By recognizing each…

Recognizing the distinct requirements and learning preferences of each student is crucial. Fundamentally, patience is important. It's essential to communicate clearly and break down difficult subjects into manageable chunks. A tutor should inspire a love of learning in addition to imparting knowledge by making the material engaging and relatable.…

I think the most important thing a teacher can do is really notice the student; not just notice their grades but also notice when they’re struggling, when they have potential they can’t yet recognize themselves, or when they need encouragement rather than explanations. I also believe in the theory that practice makes perfect; which is why I…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence in learning and foster a genuine interest in the subject. For me, every student may have a different receptive ability. Therefore, a tutor need to be patient for the first time to understand their students. And then, try to teach them for understanding the whole picture, the fundamentals rather than showing them the ways to solve a particular exercise without any combination with other knowledge. Passion…

As each student is unique it is important to assess their level of learning, identify the areas where they are lacking and then provide suitable tutoring. While teaching a tutor must implement a teaching plan which suits the student. A tutor must not only look into academics but also the general wellbeing of the student. My excellent communication…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to impact positively on the life of the student and bring about a change. Give their time in order to further assist the student and go the extra mile instead of doing just enough. This can heavily impact the student's learning experience as they know that there is someone willing to help them improve. I believe that there shouldn't be overworking the student but the student shouldn't be too relaxed when working. This…

To be patient enough to see results. Lesson plannings are crucial for students to understand the flow of their subjects. I believe I am…

In my personal opinion besides teaching a student what is in the unit/study guide, a tutor should be taking responsibility in creating a fun learning environment and encouraging and motivating the students to be confident. I think a tutor should be a role-model or at least someone the student can rely on when they are having trouble in their education. A tutor should relieve the immense pressure some students receive from normal schooling, and should be able to provide their students with long-term learning skills. Teaching isn't only about being able to explain something really well, but it is also being able to find something relatable so that the students have a relationship with what is being taught. As tutors, we bridge that relationship. Furthermore, tutors need to facilitate student’s curiosity and create an environment where their ideas and…

Inside BrooklynTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Vincent reviewed mixed numbers, area and volume, percentages, ratios, and introductory algebra while also practising reading comprehension and grammar.

In Year 10, Daniel worked on graphing linear inequalities and representing them visually, alongside simplifying expressions in algebra.

For Year 11, Alyssa focused on completing the square for quadratics as well as exploring the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule in trigonometry using step-by-step problem sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often arrived without their class notes or required materials, which made it hard to bridge knowledge gaps—significant gaps in their knowledge that will require further study.

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student missed several weeks due to injury and needed intensive test preparation; this left little time for developing independent revision habits.

For a Year 7 learner, skipping careful reading of worded maths problems meant solutions were sometimes off-target.

Meanwhile, a senior student working on trigonometry lacked confidence with unit circle values and hesitated to attempt questions without reference aids. This slowed progress during practice tests.

Recent Achievements

One Brooklyn tutor noted a Year 10 student who had previously relied on hints is now independently spotting and correcting their own algebra mistakes during sessions.

A recent high school chemistry lesson saw a student, who used to mix up empirical and molecular formulas, clearly explain the difference between them without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary years, a Year 4 learner who would often guess answers now confidently asks for help when stuck—showing they're comfortable voicing what they don't understand.

Last session, that same student finished all ten questions without skipping any or giving up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarraville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Annunciation School.
