The most import things that a tutor can do for a student are : # I can be a good listener , as sometimes its hard to explain again and again. # A tutor should make a good bond with the student so he can ask any doubt. # Instead looking at the strengths of a student , tutor should look for the weaknesses and should start preparing the student…

I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

As a tutor, my strengths include efficient identification of learning gaps, whilst providing thorough explanations from a strong foundational…

I believe that an important thing to consider is empathy and encouragement, as students often look up to their tutors for advice, validation and knowledge. Another significant thing a tutor can do for a student is provide them with plenty of practice questions and worksheets, especially for mathematics, practice questions allow certain concepts to…

Personally, I believe in three things a good tutor can do for a student. First, Can Encourage every child understanding their speciality and treating them differently. The prevailing inherited difference in them is a mean to stimulus the school going students and that can be done by the tutor. Second, Can Motivate on every walk to the student…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can provide a student is confidence. It is paramount that a tutor encourages the student to become intrinsically motivated to study and to cultivate a love for the subject, as this will allow the student to fully achieve their potential. Ensuring that a student has confidence and self belief can be just as…

As stated, giving the correct guidance and the motivation for the correct way to study is extremely important. As is well knwon, we can walk a horse to the water but cannot make him drink it, similarly giving the syllabus content and teaching the subject is important, however, the most important part it to mame sure the student knows in the first…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to break a concept down to its simplest form. In my school days, I often found this to be the easiest way to learn. If your basic foundation of any concept is strong, it gets much easier to build on that and learn more complex information pertaining to it. Moreover, being…

For maths, I think the most important thing for students is to understand the concepts rather than just knowing the formula themselves. It really helps build the foundation to solve maths problems, especially in maths specialists which requires critical thinking. I feel like being their friend when I help them, so it doesn't make them feel…

Most important thing for any tutor is to understand their student well. If they know the students quite well only then they could develop the educational materials and classes that caters the student's need. Next big thing is encouraging the students and help them maintain a positive attitude. Only if the student is motivated and have positive…

I think a tutor can bring out the inner talent of a student. Suppose a student who could not able to gain a good marks in exams or failing continuously, I will give that student mental support. I think the most important thing is making the student believe they are capable of learning, before anything else. A lot of students arrive at tutoring already convinced they're 'just bad at maths' or that everyone else gets it except them. The first job of a tutor is to break down that belief. That means reassuring them there is no rush, that…

Always tell them not to be scared to ask. I often realize students are uncomfortbale to ask when they need help. It is important to ask for help and not to be embarassed about it because developing and making it better is good rather than silent. Inside CanningtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zivah practised breaking down large numbers into their place values and worked through multiplication of 2s and 3s using targeted exercises.

For Year 8, Aiden focused on simplifying linear equations and substituting variables for number values, building fluency with algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ellie reviewed consumer arithmetic topics such as percentage increase and decrease in the context of income tax, alongside exploring atomic structure and periodic table groupings in introductory chemistry.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student repeatedly avoided completing homework, even after reminders ("Did not do homework again"), which led to limited practice on key algebra and fractions concepts.

In Year 9, a lack of note-taking during class meant important problem-solving steps were missed when attempting worded questions—this made it difficult to break down what the question required, especially under time pressure.

A Year 10 student was heavily reliant on calculators for basic operations; when asked to work without one in class, calculation errors increased and confidence dropped.

"She waited for my approval before answering," observed a tutor with a Year 5 student grappling with times tables—uncertainty often halted progress mid-question.

Recent Achievements

One Cannington tutor noticed a big shift in Shrika's approach to algebra—she used the "talking aloud" strategy consistently, asked for extra clarification until she was sure of each step, and then solved new questions without help, something she hesitated to do before.

Remy, a high school student, worked through worded problems with much more independence this week; after some initial guidance, broke down each question herself and finished her worksheet accurately.

In Year 4, Zivah tackled all textbook practice problems on her own for the first time and only needed minimal support from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cannington Community College.
