I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I am proud of my ability to teach and explain concepts to others effectively and thoroughly, which I…

I believe a tutor can prepare interactive lectures, so that students can participate in the lectures. That technique is very helpful to get the maximum attention of the students. Moreover, a tutor can provide real life example of the topics so that students can easily relate the study contents with the real world. I can easily get synchronized…

I think it is important to be adaptable, each student and each age group will learn differently. Even moreso, I think it is vital that tutors are patient, listening to their students and trying to make them feel as comfortable as possible even when faced with a challenge. I think as a tutor and in general, I am very hard working, and will be …

Teach in an understandable, motivating, and enjoyable way. Crucial factors for efficient learning (things as relibaility, punctuality and so on) are all obvious and mandatory to me. Finally, every student has his / her own ways of learning / understanding things, and it is clearly the job of the tutor to find out the most efficient one, to let the…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be a reliable source of guidance and support. Consistency helps build trust, and when students know they can depend on their tutor, they feel more confident in their learning journey. A great tutor also adapts to the student’s needs, making lessons engaging and effective. Beyond…

Not to do the work for the student. I think that a tutor should be prepared as well as eager for ever lesson and flexible to adjust to the needs of their student. A tutor's enthusiasm should encourage their student. Tutors should be imaginative and creative in order to help their student understand as well as make sure that they will remember the…

Having a growth mindset as a tutor in combination with the 7 C's are the most important qualities for a tutor. The 7 C's are: control (coming prepared for the lesson and having a plan), clarity (providing straightforward explanations and finding ways to clarify confusing concepts), conversation (engage and interact with students), care (wanting…

A good tutor should be able to let the students make mistakes. A good tutor should be able to create an environment that lets students feel comfortable and open to learn new ideas. Most importantly, a good tutor should be able to get students excited and motivated to learn. I am patient and I am very understanding of the struggles of a student in…

Providing students with a motivation for learning; confidence in own ability to tackle problems in the future; the knowledge to understand a topic 100% and homework organisation skills. Build the students competence and therefore confidence so they can solve problems and/or structure essays knowing they have the ability to do so and can achieve a great outcome using their own ability. A tutor should ensure the student fully understands the content they are learning and not just rote learning it. A tutor should make the student…

I believe that a tutor should always encourage their students to try. I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

Being emphatic. I might be biased here, but it's only through empathy that you can help someone understand what you do understand. I believe I am really emphatic, so I almost always manage to understand at what point, in the logical pipeline of understanding a concept, a certain student has difficulty. I am patient and calm, there is no reason to…

Moreover, a tutor should be able to gauge the student's strenghts and weaknesses and be patient with them. So a tutor can reinforce the strenghts of students and help…

The hardest hump for a student to get over is laying the foundations and complete understanding of the basics to propel from. I think as a tutor the most important thing you can do is to teach a student to want to learn, rather than just giving them all the answers, because if you give them positive reinforcement they can do the work themselves and feel much more accomplished. I think I am calm and understanding, but know when to be firm if I need to be to help the kids…

I found that once I contacted ezy math someone got back to me in a reasonable time frame. My daughter seems to be happy with the tutor that was picked. So far the experience has been great.

Inside ChippendaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alice worked on operations with decimals and reviewed how to calculate area, using visual examples.

In Year 10, Tom focused on linear equations—finding equations given points or gradients—and practised simplifying fractions rules.

For Year 11, Ruby tackled financial mathematics with simple interest problems and explored arithmetic and geometric sequences using sigma notation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12, one student left her calculator at home and struggled with trigonometry questions—"needs to be more prepared next time to bring calculator when having lesson," noted a tutor.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 algebra, incomplete homework meant confusion lingered over how variables interact; the set practice was not attempted before the next session.

A Year 11 student's tendency to write only final answers during financial maths revision ("did not show steps for rearranging formulas") led to missed errors and difficulty reviewing work later.

Each of these moments resulted in slower progress or repeated mistakes during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Chippendale tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously getting stuck on binomial expansion, now completes these problems solo and even applies the formulas to new case studies without prompting.

In Year 11, Paige has started initiating her own working on algebraic equations and makes far fewer calculation errors than before—she used to need constant reminders but now checks herself as she goes.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once hesitated to ask for help with fractions is now confidently spotting and correcting her own mistakes mid-task, recently fixing an error on her test entirely by herself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Darling Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Inner Sydney High School.
