Provide a love for learning. Schools are centered around competition and grades which do the exact opposite, but if you want students to enjoy learning and to continue enjoying it after they've graduated your class you want to teach them in a way that is engaging, relevant, and understandable. I believe the best way is to teach them the bare…

Ultimately, though, I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is help students develop confidence in their own abilities and nurture a genuine curiosity and love of learning that…

I believe that each student should be heard in the classroom and encouraged to contribute to discussions. It is important for them to engage in active learning rather than just listening to a teacher speak passively. I find that I can relate to students on a personal level and connect with them through pop culture and references, strengthening…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence and create a safe space for asking questions. Looking back, the best professors I had were those who encouraged independent thinking and went beyond the textbook. In the long run, this approach helps students become more adaptable, curious, and capable of…

I think the most important thing you can do as a teacher is to equip your students with the means to learn. There are skills to learn anything. As a teacher, you need to teach your students knowledge as well as show them how to learn. Once students have mastered the method of learning and at the same time gained the confidence to learn, they can…

Some of the most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are to boost their self-esteem, adjust to their preferred method of learning, and simplify difficult ideas. In addition to encouraging critical thinking and offering concise explanations, a tutor should foster a safe space where students feel free to make mistakes and ask questions. My…

The most important thing can be to understand and relate to the student as much as possible, for example understand their problems, think from their perspective and teach them in a style which best suits them. The most important thing a tutor can do is support their students. Students who seek tutoring are often reminded of their weaknesses, so I make a conscious effort not to focus solely on what they struggle with. Instead, I take the time to understand each student's strengths and build on them. By recognizing how they learn best and what they excel…

The most important role of a tutor is to equip students with the critical thinking skills and study habits they need to eventually learn independently, rather than simply feeding them the answers. To achieve this, a tutor must create a safe, encouraging space where making mistakes is viewed as a necessary and valuable part of the learning process.…

The most important things a tutor can do for students is to teach as well as keep them motivated on their progress. On a surface level outlook a tutor is just meant to teach their students and be on their way. But in my perspective, there is more to it than just teaching. A tutor is about being a capable mentor that identifies the student's weaknesses in class and mentally so there is always something the student can work upon both academically and mentally.…

As per my opinion, I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be their friend and guide and help them as their friend. In my opinion, one of the most important things a great tutor can do for a student is to increase their passion for the subject. When a student genuinely enjoys learning about a topic, they will be more motivated. When students love what they're learning, it unlocks their potential. We are very happy with our experience so far. It was simple to arrange and there was no problem finding a tutor available at the time we needed. We chose EzyMath tutoring as it was the only company that didn't send endless texts and emails to get us to sign up. The tutor arrived on time and kept my daughter engaged on maths the entire hour. Although she doesn't love maths (yet) the look of pride on her face after each session has been amazing.

Inside CoburgTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised addition and subtraction using a number line, and worked through NAPLAN-style word problems.

In Year 10, Jasmine focused on solving and rearranging algebraic equations as well as revising linear equations in preparation for her test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emmanuel explored circular functions—graphing sine and cosine—and tackled trigonometric equations to prepare for his upcoming CAT assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student became overwhelmed when facing unfamiliar algebra problems and tended to freeze rather than attempt different strategies, as noted: "He easily gets overwhelmed when faced with an unfamiliar problem."

In Year 11 calculus, skipping careful reading of questions led to repeated errors during CATs; one tutor observed he "needed to read the question more carefully."

Meanwhile, a primary student working on subtraction sometimes forgot to borrow but quickly improved once reminded.

For a Year 8 student, untidy written work in dividing polynomials meant errors went unnoticed until final checks.

These moments often left students frustrated or second-guessing themselves mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Coburg recently noticed Emmanuel, a Year 12 student, tackling complex numbers for the first time—a notoriously tricky topic—but he managed to grasp key ideas right away after struggling with similar advanced material last term.

Yvonne, also in high school, has shifted from relying on hints to independently placing angles and finding reference angles on the unit circle during calculus sessions.

Meanwhile, Jett in primary school explained multi-digit subtraction using an algorithm out loud—something he was hesitant to do before—and now confidently checks his own answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islamic College of Sport.
