In my opinion, a teacher must always be willing to learn those concepts for his students which they want to know. Also , a teacher must even provide them with some learning methods so that they can get grasp over any topic easily. Moreover, a teacher must always motivate a student and help him to think out of a box. Apart from that, teacher can…

The crucial factor a tutor can assist student is show them where to look as most students will have their own way of finding the direction. What I mean by that is teach and make them understand, give them multiple approach of solving an equation, and later they will choose what best suits them. I would say my strength will be the ability to relate…

Sensitivity. As a tutor, I need to be sensitive if my student is having a hard time absorbing my lessons, if they are bored, if they aren't focused, or anything else. Sensitivity on these matters can make the tutorial more effective. I always try to usw different kinds of approach when teaching. I cam easily adjust in order to make my leasons be…

Planning for student success is integral. This means understanding the students needs, current situations, their goals and planning for the best outcome to achieve those goals. Importantly, a tutor can offer their perspectives on the best way to understanding a concept and solving a problem. A tutor should also offer alternative ways that may…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is to support the student providing them confidence to tackle the task in front of them. Second to this I think is to provide them a roadmap of how to deal with a situation where they don't know the answer or the approach to the question. Teaching that not knowing the answer to the question is ok and…

The most important aspect of tutoring, besides providing students with better grades, is allowing them to feel comfortable when I am tutoring them. A logical concomitant of comfort is a better ability to learn and as a consequence better results. Thus, I place a great emphasis on understanding the idiosyncrasies of the student and allowing them to…

To impart knowledge as well as learning techniques that can be useful not only for the subject at hand, but also for all other subjects the student will have to study in the future. Great question — and honestly, what matters most depends a bit on the student’s needs, but here are some core things that I think every great tutor should do: 1. Create a Safe, Supportive Space A tutor should make students feel comfortable asking any question without fear of judgment. Learning only happens when students feel safe to say,…

When I tutor students, I tend not to follow the same pattern or process of learning for every kid. I believe tutor can play huge role in a student’s life when it comes to teaching them how to fish rather than serving the fish. The ability to remain calm and composed in any situation I think is my biggest strength. Having to deal with kids who…

Tutor's is not about teaching students the correct answer for a particular question. But more importantly, is to understand the weakness of the student and help them to avoid the barrel effect and hence the overall performance of the student is good. This is where tutor could add value. I am patient and I am good at using analogy. I am also good…

Initially, he/she must understand the background (educational / intellectual) of the student(s). Moreover, need to understand on where the student is struggling and what he/she wants to achieve. It will give a tutor a great perspective on when and how to start. Then, develop a lesson plan accordingly. Be the guide but not a helper of a student. It…

To listen to the students' needs. Once you understand someone's problem, working with them to fix it is a lot easier, and this applies to education as well. Understanding leads to being able to provide a personalized learning experience for the student, ensuring they are more successful. Being approachable and accommodating are two of my biggest…

In my opinion, the tutor can make the boring subjects interesting and can also turn an interesting subject to be boring. I believe it's essential to go beyond memorisation and repetitions. I encourage students to think critically, analyse information, and solve problems independently. This provides them with the skills they need to succeed not only in academics but also in life. I can adapt my teaching style to each student's individual learning needs and preferred…

Inside ComoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Grace focused on finding fractions of whole numbers and converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages using homework exercises.

Year 7 Olivia reviewed algebraic concepts, working through more challenging equations to get ready for next year's curriculum.

Meanwhile, Year 8 Aimee prepared for an upcoming test by revising indices and practicing index laws, followed by a brief review of core algebra topics.

Recent Challenges

One Year 8 student left several homework tasks incomplete, making it harder to pinpoint weak spots during lessons ("A better attempt at completing more of the assigned homework would be helpful so that we can focus on the weaknesses during our lesson time").

In Year 10 maths, a student often skipped writing out working for multi-step algebra problems—errors crept in when she solved steps mentally.

For a Year 11 English assessment, another relied too heavily on pre-prepared quotes and didn't plan ahead, leading to rushed test prep and missing techniques.

When feedback was offered, follow-through was sometimes limited, so misunderstandings lingered into new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Como recently noticed a Year 9 student who previously hesitated to tackle algebra now volunteering to expand and factorise expressions on her own, writing out each step clearly without prompting.

Another high school student made a breakthrough with index laws—she not only remembered the rules but applied them independently to more complex questions, after needing reminders just last month.

In a primary session, a younger student who often rushed through spelling quietly asked to check his answers before moving on, showing new care and patience; he finished all his spelling words correctly this time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oatley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Como Public School.
