I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. This allows them to enjoy their time at school and develop positive learning habits. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and remember that everyone learns at their own pace, in their own way. Tutors can provide practice papers, positive feedback, ways of improving to the student. The aim is to not make the student feel as if they are unable to achieve the goal, but to allow them to…

Inside ComoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Grace focused on finding fractions of whole numbers and converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages using homework exercises.

Year 7 Olivia reviewed algebraic concepts, working through more challenging equations to get ready for next year's curriculum.

Meanwhile, Year 8 Aimee prepared for an upcoming test by revising indices and practicing index laws, followed by a brief review of core algebra topics.

Recent Challenges

One Year 8 student left several homework tasks incomplete, making it harder to pinpoint weak spots during lessons ("A better attempt at completing more of the assigned homework would be helpful so that we can focus on the weaknesses during our lesson time").

In Year 10 maths, a student often skipped writing out working for multi-step algebra problems—errors crept in when she solved steps mentally.

For a Year 11 English assessment, another relied too heavily on pre-prepared quotes and didn't plan ahead, leading to rushed test prep and missing techniques.

When feedback was offered, follow-through was sometimes limited, so misunderstandings lingered into new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Como recently noticed a Year 9 student who previously hesitated to tackle algebra now volunteering to expand and factorise expressions on her own, writing out each step clearly without prompting.

Another high school student made a breakthrough with index laws—she not only remembered the rules but applied them independently to more complex questions, after needing reminders just last month.

In a primary session, a younger student who often rushed through spelling quietly asked to check his answers before moving on, showing new care and patience; he finished all his spelling words correctly this time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oatley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Como Public School.
