The most important thing is to support their learning. For example, when I ask a student to do a question and they are struggling, I wouldn't give them the steps but remind them of what to do and possibly where to start. It is important for student's to be able to develop problem solving skills and be independent with their learning. Being patient…

This can be done through identifying their strengths and weakness and their learning styles. Additionally, tutor should be able to use variety of strategies instead of relying only one way of explanation. For Example, if a…

Inside Condell ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Tarek practised probability with Venn diagrams and basic set notation, while Year 10 student Omar worked on trigonometric ratios using SOH CAH TOA and exact value tables from Exercise 6A of the Cambridge textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah focused on polynomial division and learned to apply the remainder theorem through guided examples and homework questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra work was often hard to follow, as messy setting out and misaligned equal signs disrupted their thought process—"his working out needs a lot of work, can be messy at times," one tutor noted.

In Year 12, forgetting to show all steps in calculus led to avoidable errors on exam questions, which meant time was lost rechecking answers instead of building confidence.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student relied heavily on using fingers for calculations when faced with worded problems involving operations, slowing progress and masking gaps in applying multiplication or division flexibly.

Recent Achievements

One Condell Park tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to set out "show and prove" questions clearly, now draws diagrams first and uses them to guide her answers—something she hadn't tried before.

In Year 10, another student recently tackled domain and range by asking the hardest questions he could think of, then worked through each one until he understood fully instead of giving up early.

Meanwhile, a primary student named Scarlett shaved time off her times tables speed test and raised her score after practicing strategies suggested in tutoring sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Canterbury Bankstown Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Condell Park Public School.
