Support my students and give them the skills to excel in their education while also fulfilling their goals. This can mean different things for different students, so depending on the goals and needs of the students we can together curate a study plan for success. I can relate to students as I too have gone through the same stage so I can help…

I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, explain concepts clearly, and help them develop independent problem-solving skills. A good tutor should not simply give answers, but guide students to understand the method, recognise patterns and become more confident in approaching new questions. It is also…

It is important to build a relationship with the student and to always guide them but not push them to their limits. It is also important that the student understands how its done, while having them memorise a pattern is easy, allowing them to understand how to solve these types of questions will allow them to apply their solution to more things.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student want to study the subject, instead of relying on others for help. I think the most important thing is patience as not all students are fast learner. Sometimes repetition is needed in tutoring and we need to stay calm and cool while explaining it repeatedly. Also, communication skills are essential. A good tutor knows how to deliver the subject so that it is easy to be understood by the student. 1. Patience 2.…

Taking initiative to bring the student out of their comfort zone. In a lot of cases, students fear showing their lack of knowledge, especially in group settings. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. Often, students seek tutoring because they believe they cannot achieve their academic goals, and if that thought persists, it can hinder their ability to perform. Having someone who believes in them helps boost their morale significantly, making them more eager to…

Inside CrawleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tanisha focused on trigonometric functions, specifically working through where and why she finds these challenging.

In Year 10, Chloe prepared for an upcoming Matrices test by tackling matrix operations and understanding adjacency matrices as used in different graph types.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Sofia practised addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers along with revision of multiplication tables for improved number fluency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often avoided writing out steps when tackling equations, preferring to "solve in his mind"—this led to confusion and errors, especially as problems became more complex.

In Year 11 English, another student struggled with essay planning and left arguments underdeveloped; a tutor noted, "he needs more practice in forming concise points which support his argument."

Meanwhile, in Year 6 Maths, a student was quick to use the calculator before attempting questions independently. These habits resulted in lost marks or incomplete understanding during assessments, causing visible frustration and dented confidence mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Crawley tutor recently saw Chloe, a high school student, start making her own summary notes during lessons—she'd previously relied only on verbal explanations, but now refers back to her written notes when tackling practice problems in Matrices.

In another session, Gabriel, also in high school, showed a shift by recalling formulas for area and volume from memory without prompts; earlier sessions had him frequently pausing to check or ask for reminders.

Meanwhile, Flynn (Year 6) moved from needing step-by-step help with rearranging equations to working through hypotenuse problems independently after just a few guided examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
