I think a tutor can boost the confidence of a student immensely. When the student understand and solves a problem, it improves their confidence and helps them in not only academic progress but also in their personal development. I believe that with proper encouragement and tutoring, the student can benefit significantly. Patience and time…

The most valuable duty of a tutor is to focus on the holistic development of a student, allowing them to be persistent, independent and problem-solving to tackle any academic or life challenge. My strengths are my simplistic and analogy-based approach to explaining concepts, and my emphasis on exam technique that allows students to feel…

I consider the most important thing to be support. It is important to constantly communicate with students in order to manipulate your lesson plans according to their specific needs. School can be very stressful, and being able to provide support for students can definitely both make their studying easier, and also increase their efficiency. As I…

Education is very important in today's societies, many parents hire tutors to help their children catch up or keep up in school subjects where they are having difficulties and have fallen behind their peers. Tutors can help a student in one or many subjects depending upon the child’s needs and the tutor’s expertise. "My strength is my…

To engage their student in what they are being taught. Often, it is easy for tutors to treat teaching as a rote-memory recitation of their materials, without actually using other analogies and connective methods that students benefit from. If a tutor is unwilling to invest energy into their lessons, a student likewise will gain little enrichment.…

Attentive listening and keep everything simple: it's deducted from the informal tutor experience that lecturing over hours and hours isn't a good way to help the kids. I tend to ask question like "Did you get it? Was it confusing?" and using simple words to explain the concepts, instead of overwhelming them with a pile of information or technical…

I can build my students engagement with and appreciation of the subject (many students find school boring or purposeless and I make a point to spark more joy in learning by integrating key notes of relevance into every lesson). A tutor should be able to empathize with a student's feelings and hardships in studying, as well as inspire and encourage them to try hard to study. Tutors need to be enthusiastic regarding their jobs and feel the joy of teaching students alongside being their role models in order to help them grow. A tutor must be knowledgeable in the subject…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

Personally, when I was a student the most important effect of good teachers and tutors was regaining confidence in myself. They showed me that it was okay to fail, how to bounce back, and how to learn from my mistakes. I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where they feel…

Inside Croydon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ava practised converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time and solved real-world questions involving elapsed time.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on trigonometry for right-angled triangles—applying SOHCAHTOA—and used exact values to solve complementary angle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily worked through compound interest calculations and interpreted financial math scenarios like salary earning and wages using income tables.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students encountered process obstacles impacting progress.

In Year 10 algebra, one student's working out was hard to follow—layout made it tricky to spot where the sign error occurred.

A Year 12 student revising trigonometry formulas and standard deviation struggled with retaining multi-step processes; as a tutor noted, she forgot which formula applied mid-question.

Another senior found it challenging to remember when to use different log rules in compound interest problems, often defaulting to notes rather than recalling independently.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student tackling long division showed hesitation setting out each step clearly on paper, leading to repeated corrections and lost confidence during trickier questions.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon Park tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck memorising formulas—now she thinks through which formula fits the problem, using memory tricks and visual cues.

A Year 8 student, who once hesitated to ask questions, is now starting word problems on her own and explaining each step out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised her tutor by independently reading times from an analog clock and then converting them accurately to 24-hour time without prompting—something that was tricky for her just two weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Croydon Park Public School.
