Taking a note from those around me who've helped me grow academically and personally, I strongly believe patience and honesty are the highest qualities in a teacher-student relationship. Giving constructive feedback without gloss nor unnecessary severity is key to helping the recipient grow and progress, which won't always take a linear path. As…

I can build my students engagement with and appreciation of the subject (many students find school boring or purposeless and I make a point to spark more joy in learning by integrating key notes of relevance into every lesson). I will also assure students that it is okay not to understand something, or to feel unconfident. Struggling with…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students, is to be their friends. It helps providing the students an environment where they can enjoy what they are studying. It helps in eliminating rote learning, which kills the entire joy and purpose of learning and education. My great knowledge and interest in subjects like Math and Physics…

To guide them not just academically but in life as well, to build a close connection with the student. Seeing them grow and learn as well as I teach them is also very important to me. The wellbeing of the student as well is also very very important to me, it greatly affects how they perform in class and their learning journey. The passion to be…

The most important thing is of course teaching or reinforcing a topic for the students. But what also matters is make the students enjoy learning and reflect on their knowledge, this way they will understand thing even more. As mentioned above, tutoring gives me more space to understand a student's difficulty. Thus, I believe that a tutor's biggest responsibility is to patiently guide the student through that difficulty, in other words, to unlock their ability to comprehend a lingual matter. Additionally, a tutor's role also encompasses helping the students gain more…

In my opinion, the most important things that a tutor can do for a student are to help the students to develop independent study skills as well acquire problem solving skills to attain full potential. I believe that is essential for a tutor to establish and master the “groundwork’’ and fundamental concepts with the students before moving on to more complicated concepts. For subjects like Mathematics and Physics, new knowledge is very commonly built on knowledge that you have learnt before. As a result, tutors need to make sure that…

Someone once told me a great teacher is not a messiah but a guide. As a tutor, I do not gift my mentees the treasure of knowledge but rather act as a guide toward achieving them. I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for their students in the limited time that they have is to show them how to study on their own and succeed even…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create a safe and encouraging environment where a student feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence over time. I truly believe that is how you're able to learn. As my ex-manager used to say, "there's no such thing as a stupid question" and that really resonated…

The most important things a tutor can do is provide a support network and assistance for the students both in and outside of academics. My strengths are a…

It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. Inside Croydon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ava practised converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time and solved real-world questions involving elapsed time.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on trigonometry for right-angled triangles—applying SOHCAHTOA—and used exact values to solve complementary angle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily worked through compound interest calculations and interpreted financial math scenarios like salary earning and wages using income tables.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students encountered process obstacles impacting progress.

In Year 10 algebra, one student's working out was hard to follow—layout made it tricky to spot where the sign error occurred.

A Year 12 student revising trigonometry formulas and standard deviation struggled with retaining multi-step processes; as a tutor noted, she forgot which formula applied mid-question.

Another senior found it challenging to remember when to use different log rules in compound interest problems, often defaulting to notes rather than recalling independently.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student tackling long division showed hesitation setting out each step clearly on paper, leading to repeated corrections and lost confidence during trickier questions.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon Park tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck memorising formulas—now she thinks through which formula fits the problem, using memory tricks and visual cues.

A Year 8 student, who once hesitated to ask questions, is now starting word problems on her own and explaining each step out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised her tutor by independently reading times from an analog clock and then converting them accurately to 24-hour time without prompting—something that was tricky for her just two weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Croydon Park Public School.
