The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them to work harder for themselves and enjoy Maths rather than just look at it as a chore. I can motivate students to develop their own creativity and intuition. Maths can become enjoyable once a student takes it as a hobby. I believe I am patient and non-judgmental. I can…

Communication is the biggest aspect of tutoring. Without it, individuals will not be able to successfully grasp content and may not perform as well. During my own time tutoring, I would utilise a reiteration/imitation method where I would ask the tutee to explain what I had taught back to me to see if my point came across. The most important part…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is understanding and respecting them. So, tutors constantly need to actively listen to students and ask whether students have any doubt regarding the concept. Not all students understand concepts taught in the same manner, hence, tutors need to find innovative teaching methods…

I believe the most important thing a tutor does for a student is allow the student to develop a solid grasp of the content matter and hence achieve the best results. My strengths as a tutor is taking the time to ensure a student has a solid grasp on a concept before moving on to more content. My biology and chemistry teacher did this so I have…

The most important thing for a tutor is to always be interested in the students life and to remember the small details that they may mention. A good tutor should also act as a mentor in some capacity and offer advice when reasonable. I am able to explain concepts from different angles in order to mold with how the student learns best. I always try…

By understanding the student's specific learning needs, the tutor can tailor their instruction and develop a personalized learning plan to help the student overcome challenges and achieve their goals. A tutor must not give up on a student. They should always show them their full support, understanding and belief in them. Students can be incredibly different, some may pick up concepts quickly while others may not, it is important to not compare anyone and focus on each student individually, providing them with the best assistance and help. I am…

It is to emphatize and to have patience with the student. Not everyone has the same learning curve. Other people learn faster than the others. It is common to get frustrated when your student is not understanding what you are trying to teach him/her, however, do not let your students feel and see that. It may not only hurt their self-confidence…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide specific help to the student that caters to their needs, tutors I encountered in the past would provide the same work to each student regardless of skill level or questions. As tutors, we should provide a safe space for students that would make them realise that it is okay to make a mistake. Next, we should also make students feel that they can achieve their academic goals. Continuously giving them positive feedback is helpful as well because it would motivate them to work harder. And lastly, as tutors, we should…

Inside DharrukTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Sidney practised counting forwards and backwards from three-digit numbers, used number lines to compare values, and worked with Australian coins to sort and count money.

Year 10 Omar focused on solving non-linear equations through guided worksheet revision and also began planning a discursive English essay using film scenes from "Pleasantville."

Meanwhile, Year 11 Zara strengthened her understanding of surds and indices by converting between index form and surd form, simplifying expressions, and rationalising denominators in algebraic problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in algebra skipped showing steps while working with surds, making it difficult to catch small sign errors—"he jumped straight to the answer and missed a negative."

In senior chemistry, a Year 11 student relied heavily on summary notes during acids and bases revision, which limited deeper understanding when faced with unfamiliar questions.

Meanwhile, in English (Year 7), brainstorming for essay writing was productive but incomplete homework left some ideas undeveloped.

During primary maths (Year 3), one child mixed up minute hand readings after losing focus toward lesson's end, leading to confusion when telling time.

Recent Achievements

One Dharruk tutor saw a Year 11 student who'd been hesitant with surds and indices start converting between surd and power form independently, even tackling simplification steps without prompting.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who used to freeze at expanding brackets began working through problems faster after getting the hang of rationalising denominators, pausing only to check her answers.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, Sidney struggled to count by tens from numbers like 63 or spot patterns in hundreds and units, but after just five minutes practicing without the counting chart, she managed it on her own straight away.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Dawson Public School.
