I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

There are three most important things that tutors can do for their students. First, understand students' weaknesses and try to improve them using a teaching tool. Second, make prepare a good lesson that makes the study more interesting, for example giving small gifts and praise when students provide a good answer or result. Lastly, to be…

I think patience is the most important skill a tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. I think as I have been tutored before I knew what worked for me and what didn't so I could apply those ideas. This…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build a student's confidence and tailor their approach to each individual. Every student learns differently, so being patient and adjusting your teaching style to suit their needs makes a real difference in how much they improve. It's also important to focus not just on content knowledge, but…

Able to not only teach relevant school topics, but as well as life skills and organisation skills. Bringing out a student's full potential is important from a tutor's perspective. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allow them to understand things on their own rather than allowing them to memorize things because it stays in their head longer when they can understand by themselves. The best thing that a tutor can do for a student is not to regurgitate information - that can be found by reading a book, or browsing the internet; but to inspire. I believe that a perspective can be most powerfully shared by someone who has seen and understood, who can empathize with the struggles that are necessary to get to seeing the solution…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them understand the course content- so they can pass assessment- and also to help them understand other aspects of the subject they need or want to understand, either for the sake of curiosity or because they have some use for it. Inside Dolls PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student focused on solving trigonometric equations with one unknown using sine, cosine, and tangent, then applied these skills to worded trigonometry problems.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Fatima practised balancing chemical and net ionic equations alongside calculating molar mass and limiting reagents.

For a Year 12 student, recent lessons concentrated on acids and bases with particular attention to titration methods and interpreting results from practical experiments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student, as a tutor noted, "does not study anything of what we cover during the week," so sessions often repeat previous material instead of progressing.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting key formulas like the trapezoidal rule meant extra time spent revisiting old content before tackling new exam questions.

A Year 5 learner misplaced homework by writing it on scraps rather than in the assigned booklet, leading to unfinished spelling tasks.

Meanwhile, one Year 7 student hesitated to write out steps in algebra due to fear of making mistakes—this slowed their ability to check and correct errors when practicing equations.

Recent Achievements

One Dolls Point tutor recently saw a high school student, who previously relied heavily on guidance, begin to solve problems independently and clearly explain each step back—she even kept her notes more organised than before and was fully aware of her upcoming assessments.

Another secondary student, after struggling with titration calculations in chemistry, managed to work through practice questions until she could complete them accurately on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who had difficulty remembering spelling patterns earlier in the term spelled every word on his list with 100% accuracy and finished all ten words without mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Scots College, Brighton Preparatory School.
