The most impotant thing is to build understanding and confidence, not just improve marks. As such, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes should be prioritised. My strengths are clear communication, patience and up-to-dat knowledge of VCE Methods, English, and Chemisty. I'm able to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to answer their questions about a subject, no matter how in depth, as it allows for the student to fully understand the content and perform exceedingly well under potential test conditions. Also, building confidence is another key aspect that tutors should be aiming in within…

I believe communication is the most important skill a tutor must have. Without good communication, the student can find it very difficult to learn and therefore may not benefit from tuition. Secondly, tutors should have an understanding of the student's abilities, and identify their own strengths and weaknesses in the subject in order to build up…

Listen! The most important thing a tutor should do for a student is to just take a step back and listen to the questions/concerns of their students. This is the first step that any tutor should take before starting a class or planning out a lesson. Even something simple as asking the student how their day at school went can be crucial in…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to lead students to the right path. I have experienced losing track when learning at school and it was my tutor who helped me. From my own experience, the most meaningful thing a tutor can do for a student is extending their support to outside of a tuition class. Openly allowing students to interact with you outside a tuition class for any questions or concerns is a simple but meaningful step a tutor can take in powering progress for the student. I believe that I am an…

I believe there are a few very important things a tutor can do for a student. Firstly allowing the student to feel comfortable in the lesson, this allows them to not only feel free to ask questions but to even put their feelings and opinions forward if anything is wrong. Secondly, ensuring your student understands what I as the tutor have been…

Student confidence is the most important thing a tutor builds through teaching them. Breaking down complex questions into small, simple parts makes it easy for students to grasp, and it also guides students to learn to solve problems independently. Maths involve numbers and logical justification, which means logical thinking and problem-solving,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them to aim higher than where they currently are and to act as a guide towards that goal. It is also important for us to be there for them when they need us but not spoonfeeding them so that they can learn for themselves. I am disciplined and would instil the same sense of…

A tutor should build the student’s confidence, guide them in developing their own problem-solving skills, and create a safe space for learning. Rather than giving answers, it’s important to help students understand the process so they can become independent learners. My key strengths are patience, clear communication, and adaptability. I…

Knowledgeable and supportive, patient and great communication skills
Khalida, Doncaster East

Inside Doncaster EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised long division with remainders and explored onomatopoeias to strengthen both numeracy and creative language skills.

For Year 8, Lily worked through textbook review questions in measurement, focusing on applying Pythagoras' theorem to find missing side lengths in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Daniel concentrated on trigonometry by identifying which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use when solving for unknown angles or sides in various problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Biology, a student avoided making her own notes on cellular respiration, which meant key details (like inputs/outputs) were not fully memorised; as one tutor noted, "she needs to create her own notes to help with memorisation."

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Maths, another student relied heavily on mental calculations for algebra and skipped writing out steps—when mistakes happened, it became difficult to spot where things went wrong.

A Year 7 student sometimes struggled to identify what the question was asking in worded problems and spent extra time working backwards rather than building a clear process first.

Recent Achievements

One Doncaster East tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to attempt harder algebra questions now works through complex inequalities independently, giving every question a try and getting them right.

In VCE Biology, another high school student who used to rely heavily on hints now confidently explains each stage of photosynthesis without prompting and answers new cellular respiration questions accurately.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a younger learner who once mixed up coin values can now count $5 and $10 notes correctly while adding up change, finishing her money exercises with no help needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Pines Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Donburn Primary School.
