The most important thing I consider of a tutor to do for a student is to communicate in a way where the student is reassured that in a safe space, they feel motivated, confident and ease within their tutoring sessions. This is most important as it is best to establish a good work environment and relation with the tutor so that they are not afraid…

Explain. If a tutor can explain a concept in a way a student can understand and then is able to remember it and be able to apply it, the tutor has succeeded in his role. Also being able to listen to students, as a tutor should be able to find small mistakes and correct them as questions require perfection to some degree to achieve maximum marks.…

The most important things that I can do for a student would be to be understanding towards students, be able to improvise, adapt and overcome certain situations in order to be able to teach a student and be able to be the best tutor I can be so I can provide them with good material to have a in-depth understanding in the subject I am tutoring. The most important thing a tutor can do is to be open and offer an open exchange of exchange of information that allows a student to freely delve into a subject. I feel tutors better excel at this compared to teachers who's depth and exploration of a topic can be shallow due to the rigorous nature of the syllabus. My strengths would be gentle…

Build their confidence. It is unlikely to score high marks if you are not confident, even if you understand the concepts. Building confidence helps reduce and stress anxiety which can help students learn, practice and sit exams more effectively My strengths as a tutor would be my understanding of struggling students and roundabout methods I…

My belief is that the most important things a tutor can do for a student is remain resilient, provide constant affirmation and teach in a way that is compatible with their learning style. I believe self-esteem and encouragement are two of the most important aspects of learning within a student, and in order for them to perform to the best of their…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is stepping into their shoes and acknowledging the time and effort it may require to reach their goals. This will allow tutors to better encourage and motivate the student while keeping them organised and disciplined. I am empathic and understand the pressure and stress that comes with…

I believe there are a few very important things that can be done for a student by a tutor to truly support their learning journey. First, create a learning space where they feel truly safe and valued. Second, you want to ensure that your student is genuinely supported and understanding the content. Remind them that mistakes are alright, and they…

A tutor can help a student to gain confidence. Usually students lose confidence and thus lose interest in a subject. Mathematics, being really important for career opportunities, is an interesting subject, we just need the right support at the right time and that's what tutors are there for. Inside DoonsideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia practised solving one-step algebraic equations and explored angles through targeted problem sets.

For Year 10, Daniel worked on trigonometry, including applications of the cosine rule, as well as financial mathematics involving interest calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya focused on HSC revision using past papers, tackling advanced algebra, geometry problems, and consolidating her understanding of measurement concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often checked answers only after finishing all questions, rather than step-by-step—mistakes sometimes went unnoticed until the very end, as one tutor observed during algebra tasks.

In Year 11 mathematics, revision focused mainly on familiar types, avoiding more difficult or unfamiliar problems from recent HSC practice papers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner skipped writing out working in multi-step word problems, which made it hard to trace errors and slowed improvement when reviewing with feedback. This approach left gaps unaddressed and made exam preparation feel overwhelming as deadlines approached.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Doonside recently saw a Year 11 student, who used to get stuck on multi-step trigonometry problems, now confidently apply the sine and cosine rules to solve them without prompting.

In a Year 9 session, a student who often rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to connect concepts together and learn from mistakes between lessons.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started attempting worded maths problems independently instead of waiting for hints—she finished her latest worksheet by applying skills she'd learned in earlier sessions.
