I believe there are several things a tutor can deliver to her students, the primary of which is to instill a sense of confidence and can-do attitude among them. This means my role will not only limit to a tutor but also a mentor, guiding my students on multiple aspects of their academic path. As a seasoned tutor and teacher of English, I'd say my…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. They need to know very well about the students and are wise and knowledgable enough to give good advice and make sure students love listening to the advice. I love to solve questions. If I could make complicated things into easy ones, I'd…

The most important thing a tutor can do is focus on the specific needs of the student, identify areas of weakness, and tailor the teaching approach accordingly. Students may have gaps in their understanding due to missed classes, inadequate explanations, or other reasons. A tutor can identify these gaps and help bridge them by revisiting…

Of course being able to teach and make the student understand the lesson. But understanding does not simply imply understanding just for the sake of passing the subject in the Uni, understanding the lesson means how the learning can be applied to practical experience or to day to day living. Touching the mind is tantamount to influencing a…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do is to foster a supportive and positive learning environment. This is because it is important to create a safe and encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improvements. It is also important for the tutor to tailor the teaching approach to each individual…

I feel like the most important thing for a tutor to do is create understanding which makes the children confident in their learnings and provide continuous support. A good tutor doesn't only give out the answers to questions, (spoon feeding) , he/she makes the learning fun and builds enough confidence in All the students to ask questions without…

According to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence and positive mindset in a student which can empower the student to take on challenges. I believe that a tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

The most important things I can do for a student, is to put myself in their shoes when teaching. Often some students take longer to understand, comprehend or apply the knowledge taught. It' so important to go at their pace, whilst challenging them as well, because there's nothing we can't achieve if we set our minds to it. It' important to simply…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is treating them like a friend, making them realize the importance of education to the students like them, and making them aware about the competition that is to be faced by them when they pursue their future goals. I realize tutoring is not just about being a private teacher who delivers knowledge outside of school. It is also about being a mentor, a facilitator, a friend who can help learners grow and develop good habits in order to have the best performance in learning. Besides, the tutor is the one who understand the student' strengths and weaknesses in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. The most important thing is to develop the students confidence and give them the ability to take on problems on their own later down the track. I feel that this is the main key to success as without this ability the student will give up half way. Empowerment and showing them that it isn't as hard as what they think is crucial. I am a very patient…

Inside Dudley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lily focused on solving algebraic equations and revising fraction rules, including converting fractions into decimals using long division.

In Year 9, Jacob practised expanding brackets and worked through difference of two squares problems with step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sienna tackled factorisation and quadratic trinomials, applying these skills to financial problem scenarios to build confidence ahead of her assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 maths, a student often relied on her notes during exercises but didn't revisit them later, which meant she kept making the same sign mistakes in algebra despite reminders—she made the same mistake regarding 'sign changing' very often even with notes available.

For a Year 10 test, another student didn't let the tutor know ahead of time, missing out on tailored preparation and feeling less confident in worded problems.

In primary years, one student forgot to do her homework entirely for a shapes task, leading to confusion when new formulas appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Dudley Park tutor recently noticed a big shift in Athena, a high school student who used to need reminders but now actively takes notes and solves algebraic problems on her own—she even scored 87% on her latest test.

Another high schooler, Constanza, previously hesitated to ask questions but has started posting thoughtful queries during sessions and now finishes homework independently by applying strategies from previous lessons.

In Year 4, Alyse was initially unsure with new maths topics, but after just one session she applied the taught formula correctly and solved all the given worded problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
