A tutor should provide tailored help to each student by understanding their weaknesses and the areas which they find difficult to foster growth and improvement over time. This is synonymous with giving students strategies to be independent learners and more effective learners. Alongside this, a tutor can motivate a student through their…

It is important for tutors to understand that not every student is the same and they learn at different paces. It is crucial for tutors to be able to create a flexible and a suitable lesson for each individual student to efficiently maximise the student’s learning. As a former highschool student and current university student, I understand the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is teach them to solve the questions independently, eventually without asking for help, and to study independently in the future. My strengths as a tutor are adapting to students' needs, changing the work to fit what they need to improve, and using a different approach for…

Support and guidance are vital to a students experience through education. While some need small levels of prompting or an extra pair of eyes to overlook work, some students may benefit from additional teachings outside of the traditional classroom to boost their sense of understanding in a more individual-focused lesson. My strengths as a tutor…

As mentioned above a tutor has the opportunity to teach a lesson that is tailored specifically to a certain students strengths and weaknesses. As well as this a tutor has the opportunity to really motivate and instill confidence in a student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them to learn and harness their curiosity. Actually engage and interact with the student to find where, and more importantly why they're struggling or need help. This not only is a short term solution to a single question which may be raised, but is extremely helpful in the long run as their problem solving skills and overall performance improves. Also, make sure the student actually…

Inside Edensor ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Arvin worked through Pythagoras' Theorem and applied it to real-world problems, then calculated surface area and volume of rectangular prisms.

In Year 9, Sam focused on factorising quadratic equations and graphing parabolas, including identifying intercepts and turning points.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily practised solving compound interest questions in financial maths and explored how depreciation affects value over time.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student hesitated to start solving questions and waited for reassurance, which slowed progress—"He takes too long to take the first step, to start."

During a Year 10 lesson on surface area and volume, another student gave only one-word answers and rarely asked clarifying questions; this reluctance limited his understanding of unit differences.

A Year 11 student repeatedly paused during trigonometry problems, overthinking instead of writing down her process, causing exam stress.

In Year 9 algebra, skipping verbal explanations meant mistakes went unnoticed until feedback arrived later. Moments like these left students unsure if they'd truly grasped the skill.

Recent Achievements

One Edensor Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate asking questions now readily speaks up whenever he's unsure, which means he's finally engaging instead of guessing through his maths.

In a senior session, a Year 12 girl showed new independence by working through tough calculus problems on her own and even explaining her steps out loud—something she never attempted before.

Meanwhile, in Year 7, a boy who'd always rushed assignments surprised his tutor by taking time to check each answer for careless errors before finishing the worksheet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Edensor Park Public School.
