The most important role that a tutor can play in the betterment of students is to help them build self-efficacy as the "can-do" attitude solves multiple problems. The self believe helps the student gain confidence which will eventually play a role in their academic learning. The motivation of being successful in gaining mathematical skills often…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

Help them to improve their confidence and understanding in subjects and give them the tools to be able to work, study and perform well in exams and assignments on thier own in the future I think that I am good with kids, especially young ones and getting them to work and improve even when they are not confident or prepared to. I believe that one of the most fundamental tenets of education is the ability to recognise the different support systems and forms of motivation students require to excel both academically and holistically and thus catering lessons to best suit those needs. Additionally, creating an environment in which students can express their concerns and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to tailor their teaching approach to meet the individual needs of each student. For example, I work with a student who has mild ADHD and struggled with maintaining focus. To address this, I incorporated short physical activities, such as star jumps, into our sessions every 15…

The most important thing a tutor can do is being able to explain a concept in a manner which a student can understand. Along with this, I think it is important for a tutor to empower their students, give them confidence, help them reach their goals and improve. Also, to be understanding, patient and flexible with your teaching method, as everyone…

The most important role a tutor plays for a student is to assist the student in developing their own agency in their subject area. When we believe a subject is beyond us, or we're not smart enough to grasp it, we shy away and don't push ourselves as hard. Often this belief has developed from what others have told us or from not having the right…

A tutor's job is to build confidence and make learning feel rewarding. That starts with clear explanations, patient encouragement, and adapting to the student's pace. It also means modelling effective study habits and problem-solving strategies, so they can work independently. When students enjoy the process and trust their skills, their results…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Beyond just imparting knowledge, I believe that a tutor's role is to serve as a guide, mentor, and cheerleader rolled into one. Firstly, it's crucial to create a safe and supportive environment where students…

Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. I believe a tutor should always be reliable, punctual, patient, kind, and supportive - as this creates a safe learning environment for all students. To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. The most important things as a tutor is avoid giving shortcuts to the students. If a student is struggling with a problem, I will let them think first, guide them with small things with only giving slight hints, and help them slowly reach to the answer themselves. Instead of just giving the formula or answers, I focus on helping them understand…

Whilst a tutor is only present with their student for a limited time, they can help by providing a clear understanding of what the syllabus wants and giving resources. Inside EnmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Avi reviewed trigonometry, focusing on applying sine, cosine, and tangent rules to non-right-angled triangles before analysing an English poster for visual techniques.

Year 11 student Luke revisited key syllabus topics by working through past papers and clarifying concepts he found confusing in preparation for upcoming assessments.

For a Year 6 student, multiplication skills and reading comprehension were practised together using short passages and targeted questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Science, one student failed to recognise techniques shown from previous session in exam question, showing that feedback was not being fully used when tackling unfamiliar problems.

In Year 11 Chemistry, notes highlighted ongoing avoidance of memorising polyatomic ions—this gap repeatedly disrupted progress during practice exams and dented confidence.

A Year 10 English student struggled with organizing PETEL essays and rarely completed writing outside lessons, which left written responses feeling underdeveloped.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner's work became hard to follow when multiplication steps were skipped for speed, leading to confusion and slower correction during the session.

Recent Achievements

One Enmore tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's essay writing: after struggling to organise his ideas, Avi can now independently complete PETEL paragraphs that actually make sense on paper.

Another high schooler, Luke, who previously hesitated with diagram questions in Economics, is now confidently applying diagrams to different scenarios during lessons without prompting.

In primary maths, Zoe—who used to freeze up at the mention of times tables—now works through number pattern formulas and even tackles basic algebra when given just a gentle nudge from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanmore Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Athena School.
