I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to understand their lifestyle and work according to that so that there is minimal pressure and more learning for them. In order to do that, it’s better to get to know the child and adjust according to what they prefer and how they want to be treated and/or taught. I think…

From experience, I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is allowing the student to be able to set their own goals. As a tutor I should still push students to do the best they can, but I feel that students typically only do what they want to do unless they are academically competitive. I just want to be able to help…

I think that teaching them effective study habits and removing any barriers to their learning is the most important as it not only ensures their success in the current studies, but also future studies such as in university. I always try to give my students hints when they are stuck on a problem to guide them towards the solution, rather than just…

Give my best to help the students with their studies, while enjoying the work. Also, I motivate the students towards studies, and show them the benefits gained from education. I explain the things in a more elaborative and attractive manner, so that even the under performing students will also be able to understand. I do not hesitate to explain…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student's confidence and change their perspective on learning. When students feel supported and understood, fear and anxiety around a subject can be replaced with curiosity and enjoyment. By helping students see that challenges are manageable, a tutor can make learning feel…

A tutor should be both a teacher and a role model, with the most valuable guidance lying in building confidence both academically and beyond the classroom. By providing clear support, encouragement, and education, a tutor helps students develop self-belief while working toward the student's goals. My key strength is building strong rapport with…

Create a safe and effective space for them to learn and grow academically and socially. I think both teachers and tutors can make a significant difference in young students lives and it’s important to create a safe learning space where they feel they can be their best selves and not be afraid to make mistakes in order to learn. Finding new ways…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is provide words of encouragement to students. When students are struggling and get bad grades, we are to remind them that they know the solutions they have studied all year round and they can always do better a grade isnt the end of the world. I think the most important a tutor can do for a student is to get to know and read them perfectly. This allows a tutor to know exactly what a student needs to excel, help them set realistic goals and knowing not only when to help but also when not to help, rather letting the student try and solve a complex question themselves without interference.…

A tutor, more than simply teach content, should be able to make their subject enjoyable, open and motivational for students. A successful tutor is one whose influence goes beyond the tutoring center, and drives greater change in the students academic and personal life. My own experiences with a great math tutor in high school supplement this view.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to be able to teach a student methods of learning. It is important not just for the student to absorb the information being taught but also for the student to be able to break down problems and information. Teaching this skill to students to then carry onto into their careers and personal lives is…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to clarify difficult concepts, build the student’s confidence, and foster independent learning. The process was easy and the staff were extremely helpful. My son who had always performed well in Mathematics had lost a little confidence recently. He was matched with a Tutor who has helped him regain his confidence.
Julieanne, Eschol Park

Inside Eschol ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student worked on addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication, division, and introductory inequalities and fractions.

For Year 8, Trisha focused on trigonometry—finding unknown lengths using extrapolation—and applied algebraic techniques alongside trigonometric ratios.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Daniel tackled linear relationships by finding equations of parallel and perpendicular lines, working through gradients and y-intercepts using graph-based problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in mathematics repeatedly confused the gradient and y-intercept when working with linear equations, especially under time pressure. As noted, "he applied the y point of the graph to the y-intercept mistakenly a couple of times," which slowed progress on subsequent graphing tasks.

In Year 12 advanced maths, over-reliance on calculators led to errors when substituting values into the quadratic formula—correct logic was shown on paper but mistakes crept in during calculator input.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated to show full working for complex addition, sometimes guessing answers instead of using taught strategies; this habit made it hard to pinpoint where understanding broke down during review.

Recent Achievements

One Eschol Park tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who had previously hesitated to explain his reasoning now confidently talks through geometry problems out loud, making his thinking clear step by step.

A high schooler in Year 11, after struggling with applying trigonometric ratios, can now independently find unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles using both calculator functions and written methods.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often waited for hints during addition challenges is now explaining her thought process without prompting and working through two- and three-digit jumbled sums on her own before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eschol Park Public School.
