I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning less stressful, and explain things in a way that actually makes sense to them. It’s also important to be patient, encouraging, and flexible, every student learns differently, so a tutor should be able to adapt to their needs and help them feel…

As each student is unique it is important to assess their level of learning, identify the areas where they are lacking and then provide suitable tutoring. While teaching a tutor must implement a teaching plan which suits the student. A tutor must not only look into academics but also the general wellbeing of the student. My excellent communication…

Build real understanding rather than memorisation, and build the student's confidence alongside it. My personal measure of whether a student has actually learned something is whether they could turn around and explain it to someone else. I think a good tutor also needs to be patient and encouraging, especially when a student is struggling, because…

Tutors can make the students to understand the topic from the scratch, so as to make sure the kid is able to solve the problems on its own. In this way, student excels in the class at school, and it helps in boosting up the confidence. After working for overall 2 years with kids, I have become really patient and understand and read when and which…

Empathy. Teaching is fundamentally a transfer of knowledge, but that transfer only works if you first understand how the student thinks, where they're stuck, and what's making them anxious or disengaged. A good tutor adapts their explanation to the student's learning style rather than repeating the same approach that didn't work the first time.…

Instead of relying on memorised formulas or copying worked examples, I encourage students to understand the principles behind each problem and recognise how to approach new questions. To inspire a student to be curious and develop a love of learning, as people are not often motivated to improve in areas in which they lack passion. I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. No doubt a teacher can have a long lasting impact on his students . By Spending long hours with your students, the one can easily become their role model, or perhaps their first platonic love. A teacher can help their student to form a healthy opinion of the world by asking a right question and giving them some food for thought. The passion for my…

Local Reviews

It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
