I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster curiosity and build a student's confidence. Encouraging students to study a subject for a deeper purpose, rather than simply aiming for high grades, helps them develop genuine interest and motivation to learn. When students become curious, they are more likely to explore ideas…

Be consistent when It comes to classes. Be able to answer questions they have even outside of tutoring time. The ability to adapt to the students needs and style of learning. I have the patience to help the students understand these subjects as it takes time to fully comprehend certain topics. Every student has different learning styles and I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident with any subject or topic they are struggling with. To provide continuous guidance and support to them. To ensure that no student is left behind in any way. To motivate them to give their 100% in every subject. One of my biggest strengths as a tutor is to simplify…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence in being able to attempt completely unfamiliar problems. This demonstrates the foundation of their basics and will take them a long way regardless of their chosen field. I generally try to explain concepts with various analogies instead of just showing the proper…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence as well as knowledge. When students believe in themselves, they naturally try harder and keep improving. I focus on making learning simple and less intimidating, encouraging curiosity and problem-solving instead of just memorisation, and being supportive so that students know someone…

The most important role that a tutor can play in the betterment of students is to help them build self-efficacy as the "can-do" attitude solves multiple problems. The self believe helps the student gain confidence which will eventually play a role in their academic learning. The motivation of being successful in gaining mathematical skills often…

My role is to guide, support, and give them the confidence to keep exploring. My strengths are patience, breaking things into simple steps, and making students feel comfortable asking questions. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

Learning can be spilt into 3 parts. First being simply understanding the content without worrying about exams. Second being revising and coming up questions possible from the content and getting a deeper understanding. Third is looking at the exam questions and how to form the answer to get maximum marks. The most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build a foundation of confidence and independent thinking. Rather than simply providing the correct answers, a tutor should guide a student through the logic of a problem so they can eventually solve it on their own. It is also vital to build a strong rapport where the student feels…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence and strategies to tackle problems even when you, as a tutor, are not there. The most important thing is building understanding, not just getting to the right answer — a student should walk away knowing why something works, not just what to write down. There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

Inside EveleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Olivia practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages and also worked on finding percentages of quantities in everyday contexts.

Year 8 student Mason focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as solving quadratic equations using the completing the square method.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Aisha tackled trigonometric identities and began introductory differentiation, reinforcing both with targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed a tendency to "jump to what he thinks is the answer—often a guess if he doesn't follow a logical process," especially in pattern and word problems.

In Year 7, one learner often avoided writing working out on paper, preferring mental calculation, which led to repeated basic errors ("Writing his working out on paper rather than doing it all in his head").

At senior level, hesitation with new types of questions surfaced: as noted in Year 11, "she hesitates to try and asks me how to do it rather than try it herself first." This can leave students feeling uncertain when independent problem-solving is required.

Recent Achievements

One Eveleigh tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to complete differentiation problems independently, managed to work through tricky questions on her own and even explained new methods back to the tutor.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student—who used to rush through area and perimeter questions without checking—has started pausing to think through each step before answering, leading to more accurate solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student has begun asking for help when stuck rather than guessing quietly, showing much more openness during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Central Sydney Intensive English High School.
