Make the concept easy enough for them to understand. Secondly, allowing for all types of questions to be asked. I was a shy student, worried about my answers and questions on how my teachers would judge me. But i think the best way a tutor can teach someone is by allowing the students to ask the most basic questions so they can grow and work hard…

Although my goal is to see them be at the top of their class, it is more important to see improvements in their tutor lessons and use the knowledge I give them at school to refine their skills I am very easy going and I have a lot of patience. So I am good with kids that are struggling to understand. I use the 4 predominant learning styles:…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be empathetic and patient, and I know that that's something I can do with diligence and dedication. I believe that as a tutor, my patience and ability to balance my study with that of others, are the most applicable strengths. During the period of time for which schooling…

Patience! Not everyone learns at the same pace, so it is important to take your time with students so they get the most out of the tutoring sessions. I believe I am good at adapting teaching styles, depending on the student. People learn in different ways, and I think I'm good at catering to how people learn to help them…

The most important thing for a tutor is to increase the confidence of the students. As I have seen from the past experiences, most of the students have the ability to score good grades but due to the lack of confidence in the answer, they tend to doubt themselves and mess things up in the exam. Hence boosting the student's confidence while…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a kind, and patient individual. So often people don’t want to ask for help especially students since they fear being judged or that their question won’t get answered. This is why I think being someone your student can trust is very important in helping them learn. Patient, good…

I always find people learn best when they're comfortable and truly believe they can master the concept. Therefore, I would say the most important thing for a tutor is to build a mutual respect with their student. From there encouragement, communication, and teaching is much easier. Although I have a good knowledge off mathematics and the sciences,…

To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

The most important things for a tutor to do is to help a student strengthen their own ability to learn independantly. Inside Farmborough HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie practised long addition with carrying and worked on simple subtraction using written examples.

In Year 9, Daniel focused on linear equations with negative numbers and fractions, as well as plotting points and values on the Cartesian plane, before moving onto perimeter calculations and square unit conversions.

For Year 11, Nicholas reviewed non-right angled trigonometry—particularly bearings—and completed revision of algebraic substitution problems using targeted past HSC questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, one student was reluctant to show working and often kept calculations in their head; as a tutor noted, "it is difficult knowing where she is stuck if she keeps her process contained within her mind." This led to missed feedback opportunities and repeated errors.

A Year 8 student relied heavily on calculator inputs for linear equations but struggled to clearly transfer results onto paper, resulting in incomplete finishing statements.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner's written work sometimes lacked clear logic in multiplication—mistakes compounded when sentence questions weren't translated into sums.

In senior maths, exam preparation faltered when revision focused only on familiar question types rather than new or challenging formats.

Recent Achievements

A Farmborough Heights tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to doubt her algebra skills now independently tackles equations with variables, checking her answers without prompting.

In a senior session, one student who previously struggled with trigonometry began identifying which trig function to use and isolating unknowns correctly after practicing right-angled triangle problems.

Meanwhile, in Year 3 maths, a younger learner who often made mistakes with carrying in addition completed her homework error-free for the first time and remembered to mark her tens throughout all sums.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eagle Vale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cedars Christian College.
