The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. What obvious for you, won't always be obvious for your students. So you have to be patient as students are all different. My strengths as a tutor would have to be how flexible I am with my approach and techniques to match my students learning styles as they all can be…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn for themselves. It is easy to rote memorize a formula or a text, but to be able to teach someone how they can teach themselves and to show them how to problem solve so that they can attack problems independently is far more valuable I believe my strengths as a…

Some of the most important things are: 1. The student will receive an individualised learning experience he or she can’t always get in a classroom setting. I can customise the lessons and activities just for your child. 2. I get to know your child’s individual learning style and can adapt teaching methods accordingly. 3.I will prepare your…

A tutor possesses many pivotal roles in a student's journey to tertiary levels. I believe the single most crucial contribution a tutor can make is to fan the flame. If a student gives up on their own ability despite genuine interest, then their potential will be lost. A tutor has the unique capability, and responsibility, to recognise and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to guide them academically and aid their learning outside of their classroom. I believe it is important for tutors to help achieve the students academic goals, and be a mentor that they can rely on anytime. My strength is that I am able to relate to students who struggle with studies,…

I believe that the most important thing is to empower the students so they feel as if they are able to excel in their studies. Secondly, a tutor should be able to teach students in a way that allows the student to become confident in their studies. Finally, a tutor should be able to help mentor students through their academic pursuits. I am…

The most important thing tutor a tutor can do is to teach students to solve problems independently. The tutor should teach not only how steps to complete the problems but also the logic behind the problems. Thus, students could solve similar or harder questions on their own the next time. One of my strengths is that I know how to adjust the…

Go beyond just helping them do their assignments and touch up on what they fall behind in their classes. I believe that tutoring should be tailored to individual students because not all schools provide that, that's where tutor comes into play. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are motivating the students to learn on their own as well as arming them with the tools and study skills. The motivation to learn is critical, since the tutor can teach the material, but at the end of the day, it is the student who has to master it. Without such…

The most important thing a tutor can do is support students in a way that builds their confidence, not makes them feel like they’re lacking. Helping them understand concepts without making them feel judged or “behind†is key. A good tutor creates a safe, comfortable space where students feel okay to ask questions, and make…

A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. If you have a basic idea of the student mindset you can develop techniques to make them understand the subject in a way they don't find it hard. Gamification…

My method of tutoring is through patience and being available to the student. Not every student learns the same and not every student needs a tutor, but the time they start asking several questions for the first time, that is when you need to be available and be patient with every students progress. As a tutor it is vital that they are encouraging and always find solutions to help a student who may find a certain aspects of a subject difficult or they may not like. It is also important as a tutor to listen and respond to the students needs and goals, and be organised to set those small stepping stones to help the student to achieve that. My…

A tutor should be able to explain concepts in a manner which allows students to understand the concepts and apply it elsewhere. A tutor should assist students in understanding concepts on a deeper level, rather than just rote learning. Furthermore, a tutor should be passionate in what they teach. Inside Five DockTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Charlotte worked through trigonometry and measurement problems, including Pythagoras' theorem and calculating area and volume for her upcoming exam.

Year 10 student Angelique revised expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as tackled percentage-based problem solving to prepare for half-yearly assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Blake focused on narrative planning exercises before writing a short story using his plan, also practicing reading comprehension with summary questions from short texts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student's working out was difficult to follow—steps weren't clearly shown, which made it hard for the marker to understand her process and spot where errors occurred. "She knows how to answer the questions, it is just about showing the marker how she got to her answer," a tutor observed after reviewing algebra exercises.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 English, homework completion has become inconsistent; missing weekly tasks led to gaps in reading comprehension practice.

During a timed selective school writing task in Year 7, another student lost focus mid-way and left several sections unfinished—confidence seemed to dip when challenged by unfamiliar prompts.

Recent Achievements

One Five Dock tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with calculus now confidently working through differentiation problems, clearly showing each step and explaining how she tested the nature of stationary points.

In English, a Year 10 boy recently submitted his creative writing on *Of Mice and Men*—not only did he capture the novel's style, but for the first time handed in his draft on time after weeks of late submissions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once hesitated to ask for help during reading tasks is now referring back to her book whenever unsure, summarising key events accurately without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Five Dock Public School.
