The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is be a kind and patient individual. Tutoring can be hard for students, so fostering a positive environment and having a good connection with the student will help them to feel safe and valued. My strengths as a tutor is that I am patient and able to explain things clearly and calmly…

The most important things an english tutor can do is to tailor their lessons to suit their individual students as every student learns differently and has different learning needs. It is also important that the tutor has knowledge on the curriculum that the student is being taught at school so they can align what they teach what the student is…

I think the most important thing that an english tutor can do for their student is remaining patient and continue to persevere with the content. In my experience, if I didn't understand a concept or was struggling with a question, it was extremely helpful when my tutor continued to talk me through the topic and didn't get frustrated at me for not…

As I outlined earlier, a teacher's or an english tutor's sole responsibility is not to teach academia, it is to serve as a role model and to help their students grow as people. I think it's so important to treat students as adults, no matter their age, (Of course with a little sensibility applied) and even more importantly as an individual -- to…

I believe there are two things that are most important for an english tutor. The first is not only knowing what area of help the student is in need of, but understanding why they need help with that, which is then enlightening as a tutor in how they should receive assistance. The second point is to be approachable and kind, so that students feel…

I believe that an effective tutor will help the student develop as a learner and problem solver, not only in the subject tutored, and give them lifelong study skills. This is important because the subject and level being tutored is only temporary, whereas people continue gaining and using knowledge for their whole lives. My objective as an english…

The most important thing that an english tutor for students is to allow them to work out answers for themselves. Of course, tutors should provide guidance, but they should not merely provide answers. Additionally, I feel that students must be allowed room to make mistakes. A tutor should not be one to apply too much pressure on a student, as too…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do is to hear the opinions and struggles of a student. This will allow them to move forward and solve any issues that they are having with their studies. I am very patient and hardworking. I take my time with students, allowing them to ask questions. I also provide my own homework and help with…

I think talking to the student and understanding their strengths, needs and personality is the most important thing I can do as an english tutor. I believe that if a student enjoys their lesson, they learn the best. I believe that my ability to build good rapport, identify learner needs and personalize lessons for the student to enjoy stress-free…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. Students already have bounds of pressure heaped on them, academic, parental, administrative, personal, etc. and sometimes all it takes is one Calculus question to bring them to their wit's end. A tutor must support their students throughout their learning journey…

I think that a tutor must be patient and remain composed with each student. A tutor is meant to be that person whose teaching is tailored, so it requires an individualized approach, picked up and constantly adjusted as needs change and develop. I have (as told to me by all my ever-suffering associates) a 'wild' vocabulary, and for English…

Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

Give moral support and guidance. As a tutor, I don't give answers or solve the student's work, I want them to be able to solve it themselves and use their critical thinking skills with their knowledge of subject content. Subjects can be tough, as a tutor, I need to find ways to convey the same subject in an easier, convenient way to understand it.…

I believe that in order for anyone to understand the material being taught - the tutor must begin with the fundamentals and basics; breaking down the information and then ensuring the student is able to explain it back is what I believe works best. This requires patience, which I believe is an essential quality a tutor must maintain in order for…

Local Reviews

My 10 year old daughter has been working with Zeel this year. She didn't know her times tables at all. After tutoring sessions, she now can write her times tables, and recite most of them. She has developed confidence in her approach to Maths, and her school teachers have noticed a definite improvement. Zeel has been a great fit for Holly, and responds well to her teaching.
Vanessa Hughes, Golden Grove

Inside Golden GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Michael worked through fraction multiplication, division, addition and subtraction, then practiced factorising algebraic expressions using guided examples.

For Year 9, Sienna focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions as well as division and multiplication operations in algebra.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Chloe revised the area of trapeziums and parallelograms, along with identifying types of triangles and finding unknown angles using diagrams to support her understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student preparing for algebraic pattern questions sometimes hesitated to write down working, doubting correct steps even when on track. "He second-guessed himself despite getting the right answer," a tutor noted—this slowed progress and eroded confidence during revision.

In Year 7, messy written work in geometry made it hard to trace reasoning, with layout issues causing confusion about which angles were being calculated.

Meanwhile, a senior biology student forgot key materials for a homeostasis mock test, leading to incomplete practice and missed feedback opportunities that could have clarified misunderstandings before assessment day.

Recent Achievements

One Golden Grove tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate during physics revision is now managing her study time much more efficiently and recently received a grade she was genuinely proud of.

Another high school learner, previously shy about asking questions, now openly seeks clarification during sessions and checks her answers independently while tackling more homework on her own initiative.

In primary, a younger student who struggled with reading aloud has started self-correcting spelling mistakes and read the next chapter of "The Faraway Tree" out loud without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Golden Grove High School.
