The most important thing that a tutor for students is to allow them to work out answers for themselves. Of course, tutors should provide guidance, but they should not merely provide answers. Additionally, I feel that students must be allowed room to make mistakes. A tutor should not be one to apply too much pressure on a student, as too much force…

In my opinion, as a tutor, it is very important to cherish the students as they progressed, acknowledging their work and encourage them to try to do with their full potential. Besides, it is important to have an understanding of their best way of learning, and encourage them to question in their learning. Furthermore, awareness of their wellbeing…

I believe a tutor should be like a friend who explains things without judgment and is patient when a student is struggling. Sometimes students just need someone who will listen, encourage them, and explain a concept as many times as necessary until it makes sense. A good tutor helps students feel supported, builds their confidence, and teaches…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to: 1) Build strong, personal relationships with their students: a tutor should personalize the learning, make learning more interesting for the student, and teach to the student's strengths while minimizing their weaknesses. 2) Focus on goal setting, and creating benchmarks. Being more approachable and trying to match their level of understanding to find a better approach for studying is important. Every person is different and so is their understanding and learning level. Being able to match that level and teach them is the job of a tutor. I can be a good listener and am able to identify problems of students as I…

I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. I believe the most important thing a tutor can offer a child is patience. Impatience does not create a suitable learning environment. Qualities like these can prevent a child from wanting to learn, they may negatively associate with the subject, putting them further behind. Every child can succeed, given enough time. I have strengths as coach that…

I believe that in order for anyone to understand the material being taught - the tutor must begin with the fundamentals and basics; breaking down the information and then ensuring the student is able to explain it back is what I believe works best. This requires patience, which I believe is an essential quality a tutor must maintain in order for…

The tutor's objective is not simply to relay information to a student in a bland or dry manner, but rather to establish a solid foundation and understanding for the students - to devise a teaching method that works best. A tutor should be able to communicate clearly with a student. It is important for a tutor to be patient with a student as different students learn at different paces. A tutor should be able understand the learning style of a student and have the ability to explain a concept in multiple ways to ensure that the student is confident with a concept.…

There are many important things a tutor can do for their students however, the greatest thing is being a supportive role model. Therefore, it is important that the tutor can develop a professional relationship with the student…

A tutor has to be patient and welcoming for their students. The reason these students come for tutoring is because they face difficulty keeping up with school. So they should be given the space to understand at their own pace, in their own method and a teacher needs to recognize that. We need to recognize the method which we choose to teach a…

Give moral support and guidance. As a tutor, I don't give answers or solve the student's work, I want them to be able to solve it themselves and use their critical thinking skills with their knowledge of subject content. Subjects can be tough, as a tutor, I need to find ways to convey the same subject in an easier, convenient way to understand it.…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Local Reviews

My son is an A grade student & very particular about his learning needs & he knows what works for him. In fact, Luke is so proactive, he found Ezy Math himself. He's had tutors before but none have met his needs entirely. Few teachers measure up to his expectations, but Leonardo was AWESOME! Despite a very poor test result a week earlier, Luke was beaming with excitement & pride as the tutor was able to quickly hone in on the missing pieces & in only an hour his bad test result made sense. The look on his face was priceless when he was confident the tutor totally understood his particular needs & his test the next day would be much better. We will be sticking with Ezy Math for good. Cannot rave enough about it!

Inside Green FieldsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Tom worked on reading analogue clocks and practiced addition with both two- and three-digit numbers.

Year 10 student Leticia focused on starting her maths investigation, brainstorming ideas before settling on comparing the money earned by Dr Seuss and Roald Dahl.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alexis covered content on neurons and glucose regulation, using targeted booklets to address some gaps from missed lessons.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student hesitated to ask questions during assignment work, leading to gaps in understanding that lingered beneath the surface. As noted by a tutor, "she relied on verbal prompts for each step," which limited her independence when tackling new maths problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with confidence and often avoided attempting exam-style questions unless guided; cue cards meant to boost recall remained unfinished, leaving her unable to break down unfamiliar permutations without heavy reliance on notes.

In senior Physics (Year 12), messy working—such as forgetting units or failing to clearly list known values—resulted in lost marks on calculation-heavy tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Green Fields tutor noticed that a Year 10 student who used to freeze up at the sight of multi-step exam questions now breaks them down herself, pinpointing what she knows and working through tricky parts instead of skipping them.

Another win came from a senior student who had struggled with linking "completing the square" to graphing but, after some targeted practice, could solve and explain those problems independently by the end of the session.

Meanwhile, in primary years, one student who would rush through addition and forget carried numbers now slows down and checks her work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mawson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Garden College.
