I believe the key roles of a tutor are to create a safe and supportive learning environment, understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses, explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them, and help them build study skills and confidence that go beyond the subject at hand. I am patient, adaptable and communicate clearly. I can break down…

Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. They need to have the patience to redirect from the main concept in focus to teach the fundamentals which the student lacks the knowledge. I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. Being flexible about the teaching approach because every individual has different way of…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with "methods" of learning instead of explain the concepts as they are. Because with methods, students can apply the methods elsewhere. Another thing is to teach students how to "become" a tutor as well. Because this is the way I learn difficult subjects. I imagine…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to create a space in which the student is comfortable and unafraid to make mistakes. Firstly, the most important thing that a tutor should do is build up confidence in their kids that they have the potential to achieve their goals and are destined for the best. This instantly boosts up the kids for striving for accuracy and their dreams. Secondly, a tutor should never be a demotivator in any manner. This is important as any…

The tutor's objective is not simply to relay information to a student in a bland or dry manner, but rather to establish a solid foundation and understanding for the students - to devise a teaching method that works best. The objective is for the student to learn in the most efficient and enjoyable manner. I am a University lecturer and a senior…

A tutor should be able to communicate clearly with a student. It is important for a tutor to be patient with a student as different students learn at different paces. Tutoring with Sakshi has been going really well thanks. She's a really good fit for Felix who was a bit reluctant to get tutoring. She has a lovely, calm demeanour and clearly knows her stuff. she relates well to Felix, and he's making progress already as reflected in his grade.

Inside GreenacresTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Isabelle worked through advanced integration techniques and completed practice on optimisation problems, while also reviewing feedback from a recent test.

In Year 11, Sam revised trigonometric graphs using the Haese textbook and explored probability with real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Petra focused on solving linear equations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, building confidence by practicing a range of algebraic questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 calculus, one student struggled to apply textbook derivative rules and tended to leave working incomplete—she needs to work on how to do derivatives using the specific rules from the textbook.

A Year 8 student's solutions in algebra were difficult to follow due to inconsistent layout, making it hard to spot calculation errors.

In a Year 5 session, reluctance toward completing set homework meant new times tables weren't mastered before moving forward.

During a senior review set, "he could try to improve the way he writes his solutions," as messy formatting made it harder for both tutor and student to track progress and correct misunderstandings in real time.

Recent Achievements

One Greenacres tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with differentiation—she now implements all the required formulas correctly and is starting to tackle sign diagrams on her own, after previously relying heavily on guidance.

In another session, a Year 9 boy worked through complex exponential exercises and was able to solve most questions independently, only making minor mistakes where he would have been stuck before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once needed visual aids for division surprised her tutor by grasping the concept abstractly this week and solving problems without extra support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin's Catholic Primary School.
