The most important things a tutor can do for a student are making them feel comfortable, explaining the students clearly and enjoying every moment with students I used to be a tutor for almost 1 year, two years for teaching. My strengths as a tutor are able to explain the students clearly, precisely as well as I know the method of how can the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only nurture them through the subject, but also in life in general. Not only the tutor should help them with the subject, but help them grow as a more mature individual and guide them to reach their dreams and goals in life. My strength as a tutor is communication and how I interact…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student isn't to just teach them the content, but instill a certain way of thinking. This way of carrying yourself can be summed up in five words: the relentless pursuit of knowledge. I wish to bring that mindset to the students I tutor so they not only make the most of their learning in the…

Patience and a positive reward system. It is very important to give the students time to let new concepts cement in their minds. It always helps with a reward system Determination and understanding. No matter how difficult the topic is or if they don't understand it at all, I can explain it 50 times over in 50 different…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with a good foundation of knowledge so that they can build up and improve their academic result from that. Besides, the tutor is responsible for constantly building confidence so that the student can believe in their abilities to solve tough problems. When they…

I believe that I should not be teaching facts and topics as an end and assume that students will understand the deeper concepts and principles. Deeper understanding of content- If students do not understand the deeper concepts and principles behind the facts, the students’ knowledge will be superficial and will not be able to transfer their…

The most important things a tutor can do is support a student's mindset and confidence, as it can lead to meaningful academic and personal improvement. It may translate real outcomes - whether it's improved scores, being able to speak up more, or developing an authentic love for learning. A tutor does not just teach, they also enable student to…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening carefully, being patient and identifying that not all students are the same. The first thing is actually diagnosing where the student is struggling rather than just working through whatever homework is in front of you. A lot of the time there's one concept they never fully grasped and it's been quietly causing problems ever since. The second thing is making students feel comfortable enough to say they don't understand…

Secondly, identifying their strengths and weaknesses to determine the most effective teaching strategies for them. Thirdly, to be prepared before each tutoring session (know what topics we are going to cover that day and which exercises to complete).…

To be able to explain concepts that seem complex to students, with clarity. Not only that, but to build a student's confidence in their own ability. Many students are not receiving the proper support they need for a particular subject at school; it may be too hard, it may not come off as interesting or it may not come off as useful to their…

A tutor has to be understanding and respectful to the student that they are teaching, they need to realise that these individuals don't have the same level of knowledge as them at the time, so they need time to learn and understand difficult concepts and that require more explanation. The key is to build a strong healthy and friendly relationship…

Inside HammondvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Frazer focused on fractions, decimals, and percentages, practicing conversions between them and solving real-world problems.

In Year 10, Emily worked through bearings questions in mathematics and developed her introductory paragraph for a "Life is Beautiful" essay in English.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia reviewed critical path analysis concepts as part of HSC exam preparation and went over her trial exam responses to identify key areas for improvement.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students struggled with homework completion and organization.

In Year 11 English, engagement with the subject was low, and little time was spent on assignments, which meant gaps in analysis weren't addressed between sessions.

For Year 10 Maths, as noted: "Byron did not complete his homework for the previous weeks. This isn't the first time." Missed work led to repeated confusion when new topics built on old ones.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student arrived unprepared for class content and homework—extra lesson time went into catching up instead of tackling extension tasks or feedback.

Recent Achievements

A Hammondville tutor noticed Byron stayed focused through the whole maths section this week, a shift from earlier lessons where he'd often lose concentration and need reminders to stay on task.

In Year 10, Mason finished his entire assignment before the session ended—last term, he'd rarely complete more than half in one sitting without prompting.

Another high school student spent less time stalling and got straight into revision questions, something she usually avoids at home.

One primary student quickly recognised different types of angles after previously mixing them up during class activities.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorebank Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hammondville Public School.
