The tutor have to spread out all the knowledge that they have so that the younger generation do not feel any problems reagrding the studies and if any of the student ask something, the tutor have to answer the question that the student ask. Basically, i am soft hearted and have patience. I am not such a tutor that just give only bookish knowledge,…

Being a good tutor requires you to be a good listener. Without listening to problems that students may experience, the time spent for both the student and the tutor will be wasted. I take pride in my ability to allow students to communicate any struggles that they may have before starting. In addition, being engaging while teaching ensures that…

Helping students grasp concepts rather than just memorising steps is, in my opinion, the most crucial thing a physics tutor can do for them. This entails simplifying concepts, outlining the logic behind solutions, and motivating pupils to think for themselves. Developing the student's confidence is equally crucial. Establishing a calm and…

The most important things a physics tutor can do for a student are to foster a genuine understanding of the subject, build their confidence, and cultivate a positive attitude toward learning. It’s essential to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills, rather than just giving answers, so they can become more independent learners.…

The most important thing I can do for a student is to permanently change the outlook a student has on a subject. If my students can go from viewing e.g. maths as a boring and tedious subject to viewing it as fun and rewarding, I'm succeeding in my mission as a physics tutor. I am good at making personal connections and introducing novel ways to…

I believe the most important aspects of a physics tutor are to make learning enjoyable, to build confidence and to encourage a problem solving attitude. The more fun one can have learning, the more you want to try and work on your weaknesses. Being confident in yourself also improves the will to learn and problem solving builds resilience when…

I think that helping a student understand the basic concept of what they are learning to ensure that they have a strong foundation for future learning. This may lead to a new appreciation for the subject matter. As well as ensuring that no student remains behind their year level to develop more nuanced future adults. I believe that I am able to…

As a physics tutor, I believe it is really important to get to know the student on a deeper level than teachers at school, I tend to find that it makes them more comfortable sharing their experiences and areas of difficulties, which is the foundation of learning. The capacity to communicate in such a way that the learner feels driven, excited, and confident in their ability to master and enjoy whatever challenges come along is one of the most crucial personal attributes of a competent instructor. I believe that the most important responsibility of a physics tutor is to inspire curiosity and passion for study among students. This can be done by making lessons much more interactive and fascinating, which will encourage them to study for themselves, not for the sake of someone else. Also, tutors should create an environment where students…

I think the most important thing is to genuinely listen and respond to what a student actually needs, rather than sticking rigidly to a script. Being honest with them, celebrating real progress and gently addressing real gaps, builds trust, and trust is what makes a student open up when they're struggling. Inside HeathertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zara focused on solving linear equations with brackets and pronumerals on both sides, as well as using the elimination method for simultaneous equations.

In Year 9, Sam worked through applications of Pythagoras' theorem in real-world scenarios and learned how to find unknown side lengths in trigonometry by rearranging formulas.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ethan practised adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions—including negatives—and used stem-and-leaf plots to organise data visually.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly relied on written notes rather than practicing applying concepts to new types of probability and algebra questions, leading to hesitation when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, a student used their cheat sheet but struggled to identify which formulas or diagrams matched the question during open-note assessments; as noted, "she needs to practice more on which information/diagrams relates to the questions."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student avoided showing full working out in ratio simplification tasks—skipping lines meant errors went unnoticed until answers were checked. This pattern left confusion during revision and increased stress before tests.

Recent Achievements

A Heatherton tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to wait for hints, but now works through tricky algebra questions step by step before asking for help.

In another session, a Year 7 student who often rushed and guessed at maths problems started taking time to read each question carefully and checked her answers on her own.

Meanwhile, in Year 12 English, one student who struggled with essay planning has begun outlining her arguments independently before writing—she finished last lesson's outline without any prompts from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarinda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christway College.
