Being both supportive and empathetic are important. Encouraging a student and not making a huge deal about mistakes while congratulating correct responses builds a student's self-confidence which makes them perform better overall and develop a liking for the subject. Also, being understanding when the student struggles to perform when facing more…

Help them understand the topics and not only do the exercises proposed. When I tutor, I aim for enabling the student to face any kind of test their teacher poses to them and apply what they learned in many scenarios. I am patient and also persistent, in that I try to explain one topic in several different manners until the other student…

A tutor can intiate the interest in studies in the student and get him/her out of the virtual box of fear that a certain subject is difficult to master. My strength is the vast experience I have as a tutor since last eight years. Also the fact that I have completed higher degrees and this has enabled me to understand various concepts better which…

On of the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student is make sure they understand the concept fully and understand how a formula was found instead of just using it to solve problems. I also believe it is important to make sure things are explained intuitively to students to help them understand the specifics of a topic better.…

I feel that understanding the student's moods and learning styles is very important for a physics tutor to teach effectively. A tutor should be able to provide confidence to the learner and be flexible in personalizing the support that they offer to the students/learners. I am resilient and adaptable. I focus more on the critical thinking and…

I believe a physics tutor should adapt to the student's learning style. Beyond that, I also consider building a strong bond with the student, creating a supportive and comfortable environment, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and instilling a sense of confidence and self-efficacy to be equally important. Ultimately, the goal…

I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. I strongly believe that it's important for the tutor to motivate the student to be confident and answer irrespective of the answer being right or wrong. Students are…

I think being more practical, by being more open. By explaining problems with examples of real life, with things they already know and have seen. I think helping them with the home work related problems and also giving them a problem or two to solve from the teaching of the day. Simple things like repetitive recalling and revising can also do…

In my opinion, the best thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to acknowledge the students intelligence. Einstein said it best himself "Everyone is a genius. I think the most important thing that a physics tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. Inside HolroydTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ayaan focused on mastering times tables from 1 to 10 and completed various assessments to check calculation skills.

In Year 8, Mary practiced expanding brackets and factorising expressions within simple linear equations, working through examples step by step.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily worked on tax calculations in financial maths and explored practical applications of financial mathematics in real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student working on surface area and volume tasks showed confusion when entering negative numbers into the calculator, as noted: "Small calculator misinputs or incorrect use of negative sign."

In Year 11 Maths, one learner hesitated to attempt worded equation questions, often skipping steps in rearranging equations into gradient-intercept form.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student tackling multiplication tables tended to leave homework incomplete—missing several practice sets for tables 6 and 7.

During algebra sessions with a Year 8 student, work was sometimes messy and lacked clear working, making it harder to spot sign errors when simplifying expressions.

Recent Achievements

One Holroyd tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask questions now openly requests help and clarification, making it easier for her to find learning strategies that work.

In Year 8 maths, a student who used to rely heavily on guidance was able to solve equations independently after just one explanation—a real leap in self-reliance.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school, who struggled with reading time, is now saying the times tables out loud without needing prompts and can read clocks unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Granville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Trinity Primary School.
