I think that one of the important things a tutor can do for a student is to first understand how much the student already knows and where they are struggling. This helps the tutor guide the step-by step to improve their understanding of each topic. Another important thing is patience because learning takes time, and it a calm and encouraging…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is providing them with a positive experience relating to schooling which they can bring into their formal education, overall increasing their confidence, grades and mood. A tutor can assist student in understanding the concepts more clearly and a tutor can mold a student's focus on the subject. A tutor is a constant reminder for a student to choose the right techniques for study. A tutor can explain the nuances of not just learning concepts but also to reciprocate them in the exam. My patience with students and my…

Every student is different, and I think the most important thing a tutor can do is recognise that and adapt accordingly. What works for one student might not work for another, so taking the time to understand how someone learns — whether they need visual explanations, step-by-step breakdowns, or just more practice — makes all the…

I believe the most important thing is to be well-prepared ahead of the session and have good knowledge of the subject. In addition to these, the tutor must be empathetic to the child's needs, effectively communicate and also tailor the teaching methods as every student is different and has varied learning needs and capabilities. This will also…

Inspire students to take charge of their academic future and career as well as strive to be the best version of themselves. I think students attend tutors in the first place for support, for a tutor I think this means support not only academically but also via alleviating their doubts, correcting study techniques, building confidence and offering the general support that they need to succeed. I believe this can be achieved by maintaining a constant channel of…

Encouraging critical thinking, providing clear feedback, and adapting to different learning styles are key. I believe a tutor's role is not simply to improve marks, but to teach students how to think. When students understand the reasoning behind a concept instead of memorising answers, they develop skills that stay with them long after the lesson ends. Because I know what it feels like to be the student who has to catch up quickly, I naturally teach…

Inside KalkalloTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Maryam focused on mastering complex numbers, including working through extended response questions and tackling some Year 12-level problems.

In Year 11, Ajay practised circular functions in Maths Methods, covering applications and differentiation of trigonometric expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Neha worked through Physics concepts such as momentum and energy by solving practical problems involving forces and motion.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, a tutor noticed "she is a bit weak in basics," which made new topics slower to grasp and meant extra time was spent backtracking rather than building confidence with current material.

A Year 11 student working on complex numbers showed he could recall formulas but often "got stuck finishing the answer"—mapping out steps on paper, instead of holding them mentally, would help avoid confusion midway through problems.

In senior Physics, one student kept up-to-date but rarely practiced unfamiliar question types; this limited exposure meant real exams could feel unexpectedly tricky or unfamiliar.

Recent Achievements

One Kalkallo tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to stay silent when stuck; now, she openly asks for help and attempts new question types without prompting.

In a recent high school session, another student who previously hesitated with binomial distributions adapted quickly to the fundamentals and even tackled related calculator problems independently.

Meanwhile, a primary student initially struggled to grasp unit conversions but now confidently applies this skill to real-world energy questions—he explained the conversion process back to the tutor and solved examples on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Craigieburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gilgai Plains Primary School.
