Some of the most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student is ensuring that the student knows the content that has been taught. Also make sure that you are listening to the student and try to minimise their weaknesses and maximise their strengths. As a tutor, my strengths are being confident and only speaking what I know of. I will…

I believe the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to make them feel good about themselves. I feel it is essential that they do this through teaching so that the student feels happy when they start to understand and do stuff they were orginally having trouble over. I am a bright and bubbly person. I will never judge…

Helping the student understand the concept clearly.Once a concept is taught and examples are explained,I firmly believe that it is duty of the tutor to make sure that the students solves/writes the problem/writing on their own.And proper follow ups of the mistakes made by the student is also another important one.Other than that, how to embrace…

A tutor should focus more on the foundation of the student and focus more on the basics of the subject. Also, corelating the subject with real-life examples could make learning easier and more interesting. I believe I have the right amount of patience required to tutor students. Giving confidence to the student is the most important thing. If the student is not confident in their ability to do the task, then they will believe that they can not and will not try. Understanding the frustrations that the student can have because they don't understand something, staying calm and patiently taking the student through the problem…

I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. Firstly, I believe developing a strong relationship with a student is one of the most important things a student can do. This shows trust and allows students to give their full potential during sessions. Another important part of tutoring is to have a clear and well designed plan for the session ahead, which makes both the student and tutor have a…

I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. One of the most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student is offer an environment where they can comfortably learn and raise any concerns or questions they might have. This comes from building a good relationship with the student, which often not many tutors do, making the student's learning ineffective. Offering an organised and…

teach understanding of a topic rather than how to do a problem so the student can tackle more difficult problems on there own without help. With understanding you can answer any question. This requires the discipline to remain supportive and patient with there students as to not only enhance their skill, but build their confidence. As much as academic ability is important,…

I aim to set up a relaxed environment with the students so that students feel comfortable and focused working on subjects. I belive helping to build confidence is the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student. Confidence in one area can flow into other areas of study/life. Inside Kilsyth SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden focused on positive and negative integers as well as BODMAS, building accuracy with step-by-step practice.

In Year 10, Sarah worked through binomial and normal probability distributions, using real-life examples to strengthen her understanding of statistical models.

For VCE Maths Methods, Year 12 student Ethan tackled differentiation techniques including chain, product, and quotient rules alongside advanced circular functions, reinforcing concepts through targeted exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 Chemistry student missed several early classes, which made it difficult to grasp new content—"she needs more than 2 hours a week of tutoring to cover the contents she has missed."

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student forgot key log and exponent rules during revision; this often slowed progress on exam questions.

For a Year 8 class, homework was left incomplete ("no homework"), causing gaps in learning from week to week.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled with area and volume problems as he "could not remember and implement his area and volume rules," leading to confusion when laying out solutions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kilsyth South noticed one high school student who was initially hesitant to ask for help now regularly raises questions and talks through tricky maths problems aloud, instead of quietly guessing.

Another Year 12 student, who previously got stuck on worded differentiation problems, was able to tackle all but one advanced question independently this week, applying techniques from earlier lessons without needing step-by-step guidance.

In a recent primary session, a younger student who once struggled with focus worked steadily through every set task and even asked for extra homework when he finished early.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayswater Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bayswater North Primary School.
