To promote effective learning and bolster a student's academic progress, a tutor should consider the following actions: 1. Develop personalized teaching plans tailored to each student's learning foundations and pace. 2. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is support and mentor a student, not just teach the content. That means creating a safe, encouraging space where they feel comfortable asking questions, building their confidence, and being guided. A good tutor also helps students develop better study habits and self-belief, setting them up for…

A tutor is someone that a student can rely on for support. They are pragmatic in finding ways to ensure the student has a positive experience with learning. The student is in control, and the tutor is a guide that assists and also facilitates the student to take safe risks, ask questions and completely engage with their learning in ways suitable…

Help them learn in a different way! Help them see things from a different perspective! As a Queer non-binary writer, I can introduce them to new thoughts and ideas around certain traditional aspects of writing and reading. What I want is for my students to walk away with even more understanding of their certain topic/study area and that they…

Firstly, Building confidence in a student to make him function in his own.Secondly, a tutor should consider himself in terms of the student's point of view. I think that it is imperative for the tutor to try their hardest to create a passion for the subject in the student, as this will motivate them to try as hard as they can. My passion for maths not only motivated me to study but enabled me to thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every lesson. It is also important that the tutor has an open mindset…

I am able to explain and break things…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

First and foremost, helping them score well for the examinations they are going to sit for. However, along the way there, I think it's important for a tutor to help them find their own reason on why they want to do well, their own unique strengths and learning styles, guide them on how to access credible resources help them develop their own voice…

I think it goes without saying that a tutor should help their student/s to understand concepts so that the student can improve on their grades. But I believe that tutoring goes so much further beyond that. A tutor should strive to truly engage the student in their learning. A good tutor will motivate and inspire the student so that they are…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is highlight their strengths as a learner. I don't want students to think they need a tutor because they need help and feel badly about their current academic performance. I want students to have control over their learning when it comes to choices, activities, and material. Students should…

The most important thing is to identify the weak spots and missing links in the understanding of the basics and build up from that to create a permanent improvement rather than a rushed process just to get instant gratification. It's also important to try to build a good learning environment that can become a regular and followable habit for the…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I strongly believe that building a student's confidence is a key first step. Ensuring that they can see their progress, which in turn makes them eager to learn more. I think it is important to break down problems into steps that feel achievable, and ensuring every session ends with them feeling more capable than when it started. I believe that…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to share their passion for learning, helping them view education as an exciting adventure rather than just another task. Inside KyeemaghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Sasha focused on algebra questions and consolidating her understanding of positive and negative integers through targeted practice.

Year 9 sessions with Liam addressed trigonometric ratios, including basic applications of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as graphing these functions.

For Year 11 student Emily, recent lessons explored quadratic equations—covering both factorising techniques and use of the quadratic formula—plus applied skills to real-world problem scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student did not attend the scheduled online lesson despite reminders; as noted, "sent her texts and emails before the class, which she has not replied." This gap disrupts progress on planned tutorials.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Algebra, incomplete homework was an issue: "must take his homework seriously, otherwise he will suffer the consequences of poor results."

A Year 8 student erased working out repeatedly rather than showing full steps—"erases work with an eraser instead of keeping working out"—making it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings during problem-solving.

Missed feedback and hidden errors slow improvement in both cases.

Recent Achievements

One Kyeemagh tutoring session saw a Year 10 student independently catch a calculation error before the tutor did, showing real engagement rather than just following along—he used to be more passive with problem-solving.

In another high school example, a student who had previously skipped writing down her maths working now consistently records every step and talks through her reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner tackled mixed numerals for the first time and was eager to attempt challenging questions on her own, asking for extra practice worksheets without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kyeemagh Public School.
